My motor sounds like someone is spinning a roulette wheel.

Speeds up when I rev, slows down when I let off the pedal, still audible when idling.

I have a KA24E.

Is that the "timing chain rattle" or is there something more serious going on here.
The car otherwise feels the same.

if its the timing chain rattle it will sound like you've got a pile of gravel running through your engine. its most likely going to be your water pump about to take a dump. its pretty common, ive replaced 6 of them on the 8 s13s ive owned. really easy, really cheap.

i know where the water pump is, but i have no idea how to take it out. please dont tell me i have to remove the head to get at it.

i guess the best way to see if its the water pump would be to run the car without the belt for a couple seconds, right?

Maybe your radiator shroud is hitting your fan or something...check out the simple shit of things touching the fan and such.

well, ive got e-fans, so yeah.

it definitely sounds like its coming from inside the motor. but the sound disappeared and it hasnt come back. so i dunno wtf. shit was pretty damn loud though. louder than some youtube videos ive seen. loud enough to be embarassed about driving around with the shit, thats for damn sure.
