View Full Version : SI hanging with a s14?
Buddy of mine is insistent that a s14 240sx (KA24DE) is definately faster than a 99-00 6th gen Civic SI. I think it's mostly a drivers race with the advantage going to the civic.
I like s14s and all, but i'm pretty sure that in stock form, the SI is a lil faster.
My friend will only listen to the opinions of zilvia.net. What do you guys think?

i guess i'd have to believe that... what you are saying that is (Si being a little faster) I haven't raced one at a track yet but my friends SI was running a 15.5/6 qtr mile stock while i was running 16.03/3 ... but i have an s13 with an open diff so I can't say for s14's.

numbers for numbers the Si will win. but thats juss numbers. it goes down to the driver
ive beaten my friends Si all the time. intake header exhaust cam gears
and all i have is intake.
moral of this story: its up to the drivers

So all in all, it sounds like on paper the SI should win, but greater driving skill by the 240 can overcome that.
Any idea on what's an average 1/4 mile time for a N/A s14? The average times for a stock SI is mid-low 15's (@clubsi). SI's with bolt-ons are even capable of dipping into the 14s.
Then again there are some which hit 16s consistently. Probably the driver since their 60' is about 2.5 seconds.
I agree that it's a drivers' race, but by no means will the s14 have an easy win. I think the 240 might even lose to a decently driven SI. Or am I wrong?

Car for car- driver for driver- the (gasp) Honda is faster.
And when you input a variable like "driver skill" into the equation then it can go either way by a couple seconds, so what's the point?
Here's my educated opinion (based on drivetrains and powerbands):
A race would go like this-
240 gets jump- leads through 2nd gear.
Si reels in 240 -QUICK- and in 3rd is even and pulling.
So if you're racing on the street to 50-60mph it will seem like they're dead even or the 240 is faster.
But a REAL race on a 1/4 mile track the 240 will consistently see taillights.
Whaddya think?
Word, the civic is lighter so that gices it another edge too.

I think the 240 would start loosing ground as soon as it hit 2nd. Our 2nd gear is crap!

That's about right. I raced my friends SI from dead stop, beat him bad off the line, he started creeping in second, by third he was at my bumper, we didn't make it to forth (exit) but you know what would have happened.

the 240 would get a better launch but the Si will win.. top speed and 1/4 mile

Who cares about hypotheticals.. go get a S14 and a SI together and just race the damn things. Why is it there's a new "can a ______ beat a 240" thread every day?? There's a really easy way to find out... go race and the outcome will be quite clear.
thanks for the info.
If i could get a civic SI to race my friend's s14 (with equal drivers in both), I would. But that's never gonna happen coz most of the SIs i've seen around here are equipped with altezzas and look poorly maintained.
My other option was to ask the "240 gurus" at zilvia :D to prove my point to my friend.
