well i finaly did the install of my 96 6-bolt j30 diff (w/56k) in to my 90 s13 hatch. i am happy to report that there wasnt any issue of any kind. from the research ive done i was supposed to have an issue with the driveshaft being too long needed to be replaced with an abs one. but that was false, i used all my stock stuff and it had 1/4 of freeplay in the driveshaft. any thoughts as to why someone else's would be different?

PLEASE Tell me something in the Next Couple of days,..But ever since I Swapped in my 96 VLSD & axles - I get the Slighest Leak from the Rear Tail Shaft Seal (out the back of the Trans) where the Yoke goes in.
I've replaced it 2 times and the sec I get home its leaking again.
I believe its from my Trans mount has gone to SHit and the trans Sagging a tad lower and the Driveshaft kind of "fixed" + my driveway has a Tiny incline (but not much).

The Shaft is a tad bit too long but that CAN"T Be the reason for my leak & not a problem.

yea please let us know what happens after a couple of days or weeks because everyone talks about how happy they are after they install a vlsd but they never talk about what happens after they have been running it for a couple of days.

i ran my vlsd from day 1 without any leak after the installations.

ive been through 3 vlsd but never had a leak from the tranny.

replaced my tranny seal once and thats it

possiblly there is a play in your subframe then the center bearing is shot then movement back and for when there is a load

reason being is that some J30 diff's had the ABS sensor where the driveshaft flange is in the diff making the diff a little longer. while other J30 diffs had the ABS sensors on the axle output shafts. making the diff the correct length for the driveshaft. it's just one of those other stupid things nissan did. but glad it worked out for yah

Incorrect. All J30s used a 3channel ABS system like the S13/S14 so the ABS skid sensor is always on the snout. Z32s use the 4channel system with sensors on the output shafts.

The question on driveshaft fitment has long been discussed. Every vehicle is different, between crossmember, engine mounts, transmission mount, subframe, and diff points there's always going to be play somewhere. Some cars don't have any issues, some do. I removed my transmission a million times from my old car and sometimes the driveshaft was tight to get back in, other times not, just depended on how it was jacked up in most cases.

I stand corrected :wan: guessing customers where sold Z diffs being told they where J30 units. awesomeness
