View Full Version : Thought on SR wiring

As I'm doing a S14/S14 SR swap, I'm interested to know why couldn't anyone just use the dash/interior harness from JDM S14s too? (It also applies to s13 too) Since the lower engine (fuse box) harness is identical between KA and SR, we could use the same SR harness connecting to SR dash/interior harness.

In this case, we could use the engine harness without any modification. While using the JDM dash/interior harness, we might as hook up the digital climate control and use the A/C as well?

There might be some issues though, for instance, the a/c wiring in usdm is different than jdm, and jdm uses different a/c compressor, etc. A/C harness will need to be converted too. But what could be better than running a clean unmod'd engine harness, especially for the people who run their cars without A/C.

Any thoughts?

You can do the S14 dash swap - the clusters are different, and the wiring to the clusters is different, but as long as you have the plugs/pigtails off the S14 stuff you're trying to install, you can get it to work (most of the wire colors match up for cluster/DCC/etc).

As far as that making a S14 SR -> S14 swap easier, you're kidding yourself. In order to use a completely unmodified upper engine harness, you'd have to change your body harness (the M63/F3 plug pinouts are different if I recall).

what I'm saying is convert body harness along with engine harness as well as the cluster. Comments?

It is not a convenient way of doing the engine swap, but it is just a thought.

dont be gay just wire the jdm harness for the usdm car.

that would be so much work. theres so little wiring involved in a SR swap that it just wouldnt be worth it.

just repin the the dash harness connector by the ecu takes no time at all. There is no need to tear the dash apart and rip out the usdm harness, ridiculous waste of time to even atempt this

You could do that but you have to take into account a few things, most JDM cars don't have power locks, rear defogger, sunroof, amplified stereo system, etc. There is no cruise control on a JDM car either, and you'd need to repin numerous plugs anyway, so it's kind of pointless, especially when repinning the F3 plug is so easy to do.

My Toyota Estima, Nissan 180SX, G/f's Skyline, friends Silvia, all have power windows and locks, and rear defroster. The Silvia and Estima both have power sunroofs. The Skyline had an amplified stereo. But none of them have cruise control.

Just food for thought. Not sure if all those JDM cars are rare or not with their options, haha

Ya dude, I've yet to see a JDM car here without power windows, locks, and rear defroster.

Nowhere did I say they do not come with those options. Fail to both of you on reading comprehension.

What I said was, a LOT of JDM S14s do not have power locks, rear defogger, or sunroof. What a Toyota Estima has to do with that in beyond me, I didn't say anywhere that all cars built in Japan don't come with these options, I'm speaking strictly of the S14 chassis. Based on what I've seen on Yahoo Japan auctions from cars for sale, parts for sale, clips I've seen here for sale and in person, etc. for over 15 years. Sunroofs are rare in Japan on the S14, power locks aren't as common as over here. Cruise control is not offered on any S14 chassis in Japan.

So thank you for both for balking pointless comments that have nothing to do with what we were discussing in the first place.

Sorry, when you said "most JDM cars" I thought you were generalizing. My bad. I know that makes no sense regarding the context of this thread. Lol, I fail.
I don't doubt your knowledge of Nissan, and will hold you to that. :bowrofl:
