Wait, so this car is actually real?

I have seen it posted on a few other forums, but I thought it was an internet joke.

Supposedly it outperforms the Civic.

P.F. Chang's IS THE WORST!!!
At least you can say to some degree 'you get what you pay for'.
$5 slop > $20 half portion slop

Panda express is meh.
you kinda know what to expect.
Good Chinese food is there, but always in shitty locations.
good places also only take cash, & seldom speak english.

Back on topic about the civic,
I really don't care what a car looks like as long as it drives good & the price is right.
coming from Kia though, can't say my expectations would be high anyhow.

speaking mandarin/cantonese really helps...haha
but mainly u just gotta know the right places

i drove a rental Kia Rondo from LA to SF, i had no complain at all
very comfy ride...

i can speak some canto, but can barely read a few hundred han characters.
honestly I feel there aren't many canto speakers in socal.
gets you further in canada or maybe norcal.

most of the better places i know of in LA is in the san gabriel valley.
i live in the west la area, so the drive is painful even w/out traffic.
west la has nothing in terms of respectable chinese food.

lol. cali dealership plates. for good chinese food, you need to find those hole in the wall places. like the best mexican food or anything else. ronmcdon, thats weird, most chinese i run into in socal are canton usually. same in bay area. i know enough mandarin to order and stuff. all the good chinese places hook it up too if you speak their language. the footrest looks like an airvent...

not going to argue, you're both right. Panda and PF Chang's are the worst places for Chinese food that taste like poo (can't think of another word to describe it, but poo works i guess). it's overpriced crap, but they can't seem to get people out of there, always attracting lines to eat that garbage.

Yeah because no car companies ever copy a good idea... look at any new car and you'll see design cues from a ton of other brands

it went from kia looking like a civic to chinese food, to the new insight looking like a prius, back to chinese food.

sooo..

you think being chinese in LA is rough.

imagine living in san diego.

yeah. that REALLY sucks.

$0.99 chinese fast food and donut shops, anyone?

we got 'em.

by the dozen (no pun intended).

I lived in La Jolla (15 mins north of downtown san diego) for a couple of years.
Don't recall ever even bothering with Chinese.
Best Japanese I had was at the Mitsuwa food court, just to show how bad it was.
Can't beat the tacos (and drinking) across the border though.
some of the food at hillcrest wasn't too bad either.

I liked SD a lot overall.
Just spent most of my time being a beach bum at PB, hanging out in downtown, and tj.
seems like a really leisurely laid back town w/ it's own personality.
you just can't expect any place to have everything.
wouldn't mind to move back to SD some day.

The San Gabriel Valley has great Chinese food,
but is pretty depressing with all the fobs, bad drivers, and general lack of culture.
you can only eat Chinese food and get so many cheap foot massages before it gets old.
I would move to Riverside before I move there.

ronmcdon, thats weird, most chinese i run into in socal are canton usually. same in bay area. i know enough mandarin to order and stuff. all the good chinese places hook it up too if you speak their language.

you're right.
canto food places actually speak canto most of the time.
I just happen prefer northern chinese in general, like shanghai, szechaun, hunan, chiu-chow (sp?), & islamic chinese. even taiwanese breakfast is great.
typically ppl from those regions don't speak canto.
I lived in hong kong for a while, and got spoilt expecting everyone to speak canto.
I just don't think there is a single good cantonese/hk colonial/macau portugese food place in socal or norcal.
'Elite' in the SGV comes close, but can't compare to the real thing.
my fault entirely going to a northern Chinese establishment expecting everyone to speak Canto.

Back to the civic,
the I'm pretty sure the metallic pedals are 'influenced' by audi.
I drove a 08 civic si around for a couple of months, and I don't recall that detail.
but yeah, idk about that detail either.
looks like a cheese grater to me.

are you serious?!

SGV has a shitload of good chinese food
and hk style food > northern china style food

the only good northern china style food, is the breakfast, which is hard to find here in SGV

ronmcdon
04-14-2009, 01:13 AM
hk style food in CA doesn't measure favorably compared to what's actually in hong kong imo.
if you lived in hk for a number of years (I have for 10 yrs), its hard not to have your expectations raised.
but hey, if you know some good places id be more than happy to check it out.

I haven't lived in China outside of HK, so maybe my expectations of northern Chinese is lower, idk.

when you say "hk style food > northern china style food",
not sure if you're mean:

A) hk style, in general/absolutes, food is better than northern, OR
B) hk style food in CA is better than northern.

A) is interesting and almost impossible to answer, or at least I can't decide.
think it boils down to more a matter of personal preference

B) i'll just have to respectfully disagree,
unless you can make some great suggestions, and I hope you do :)

also 'hk style' is really general.
hk has quite a bit of variety in terms of cooking styles.

I'd buy Hyundai...but not Kia. Even though the Soul is pretty rad.

Yes that thing looks like the Civic. Doesn't matter to me.

The Soul is a really nice looking car.

Anyways, nothing new here...remember when Hyundai was flagged for taking design cues from other makes?

Korean food is da bomb :keke:

Pillar-less doors + rear diffuser FTW. Imagine sticking a 2.4L I4 in that little thing, thats what comes in the upper trim. 2.0 in the base.

Whats up with the plates on that car? I cant read what it sais, looks like a Fed. plate (g14, g13, etc)but its not...

I have to admit, for a KIA, it looks pretty sweet...too bad its FWD, I will never go back...gheyyy

Its dealer plates, just so they can show it off. I admit it seriously doesn't look bad at all. But FWD sucks, so fuck that.
