Need your input on a design...

so i got into putzin around with a new 180sx design tonight...was looking at ecko t-shirts a lot and really started playing around with something around their style

what do u guys think of this???

this is the kind of stuff i want to bring out...but need minimum quantity orders of like 200 to do (and id have to bump the price of the shirts up to like 20-25 bux each + shipping to pay for printing costs)

the shirt would be printed using water based inks...it would literally be the exact same quality as ecko, DC, volcom etc etc...im in talks with the printers that do their stuff

well if u guys go bug the shit outta those stores i asked you to for them to carry my stuff...i might considder it...but until i can fill orders in the thousands...these kinds of shirts are going to be on the back burner :(

It looks ok, im not a fan of the wings or scroll. Makes it look like a "im an mma fighter brah" shirt.

Maybe some urban stuff? Like graff arrows and paint drips? Just throwing that out.

buncha design tools i have layin around...i could hand draw it all (ive been doing traditional art my entire life) but i didnt feel like spending 6-8 hours doodling something like that

for the particular art style i was going for...the side view wouldnt have worked with the wings...it was either a straight on front view or a top down view (which isnt easy to come across on older cars)

this was more or less a peice of concept art...if it makes it to production or not remains to be seen...most of my "normal, non car" friends who have seen it immediately want the shirt and ask me when its going into production so i think this style of art may fly better with those outside of the "import" scene...also it gave me a few ideas for new shirts as well (including a great idea for a S14 t-shirt which may actually become a real peice of art this summer for you guys to see)

the wings match what the inscription says on the scroll (which is Devil in Angels Dressings...its a lyric from one of my old industrial tracks i wrote back in 2006...heh bet u didnt know i was an audio producer as well) and played perfectly into the theme i was going for (kinda like the white angel and black devil cars from ridge racer revolution...yes...i am that old school lol)

i did make hoodies...they just didnt fly very well for some odd reason when they were on the website for almost 6 months (and 2 group buys later on here)

i blew the screens out in march as no one was purchasing them...im going to introduce new ones this fall...but theyre going to be much simpler designs (as 4 color printing on hoodies is a no no...takes WAY too much production time)

well given for the fall catalogue setup i will have quite a bit more time to design the shirts...they should be a bit different than the normal stuff i put out (im really getting into certain styles of graffiti art thats in this HUGE book ive got of it)...im also going to be looking into different styles of printing and such for the shirts...the one set back i have right now producing some of the stuff id like to is the quantity vs price limit...as i am still a small company...bringing out certain print styles is difficult due to the high price tag (just to give you guys an idea of what it would cost me to produce the design on the previous page...for the MINIMUM print order of 150 shirts it would run me close to 1500 bux...and i need to still pull a small profit from the shirts in order to recoup costs for another batch)

but i totally understand your point of certain design styles looking "dated"...it happens with all design trends...unfortunately thats the world of design at times...and its difficult to get out of design trends as people seem to have a hard time accepting new styles for certain things

to give you an example...my FAVORITE style of CG art is tech hooring...which was HUGE in the late 90s due to the rave scene...it took such skill to model things in 3d and to create the "tech" work around those 3d objects in photoshop to give the image a good sense of depth...eventually tech hooring gave way to shape hooring (see the ORIGINAL version of benni benassi-satisfaction video to get a good idea of shape hooring...NOT the girls video either...PM me for the link if u want it)...shape hooring gave way to urban/vector hooring...that style gave way to current day grunge...and this is in a 15-20 year time span...so these things take time but they do come and go

but its understandable that some people arent big on the grunge trend...i perfer the more "gothic" approach to the grunge trend (given im mister goth guy myself)...but in order for my stuff to receive a much broader audience appeal...i kinda have to stick to whats "in" at the moment

and btw...the car itself does have more "detailed" lines in it...they just didnt come across well in the JPG (there is a brush stroke applied to the lines...you would see it in the final print given it would be MUCH larger on the shirt than on your computer screen)

But fuck it, last I read, you were taking the plunge and making Dorkidori your main sqeeze and I give you extreme props on that. But thats why it makes me mad, 1: we have a mutual respect for each other. Two different styles. 2: We are both pushing different products to a market that doesnt get a lot of options in representing what they like. 3: You and I are at completely seperate stages as far as I am doing Jimmy Up for fun in between school, work and drifting- you are pushing this as hard as possible trying to make something niche into something mainstream... and your doing good.

But if we are not at each other's throats then I dont see the need for Hyper something ;) to even bring me and my company up.

ON topic, I like the design.

Im going to try and hit up the next vegas drift event, then I could finally meet your ass.

nah man...ur not being whiney...i completely agree with you...i dont feel its right for people to compare us...yes youre my "competition" but i dont view you as "competition"...and i dont think people should be saying anything negative about what you offer thru your shirts either...i personally dont say bad things about you and dont appreciate it when people do...i respect what you do on here and i wish jimmyup brand nothing but the best as its not easy to do what you or i are doing...youve got nothing but my respect for doing what you do :)
