I phoned up the dealership and asked about installing a remote car starter on an infiniti G35. They pretty much told me it was a bad idea because it skrews up the electrical or something along those line. Is this true? Is installing a remote car starter on a newer car a bad idea? or is the dealership just talking out their ass.
Cheers!

might interfere with the factory alarm and/or they don't want to mess with it
is it a stick? they're not supposed to install on manuals

any time you mess with electrical is a bad idea..especially on new cars because the ECU's are so sensitive. you could end up drawing voltage from and the ecu wont get enough or a wire could come loose and cause a short and fry your ecu. it's up to you.

They are allowed to, depending on liability forms from what I understand. It was installed on my manual integra when I bought it, but I pulled the fuse for it because I didn't want to accidentally wreck my car.
As for the OP, I don't see anything other than possibly being a pain to wire in series with the oem alarm/keyless entry.

why did you take it to the dealership. They probably just don't want to mess with anything aftermarket. Take it to a known and reputable stereo ship. I think I paid around 75 dollars for just the labor on my daily. And then I got a brand new dei remote start on ebay for 50 or 60 dollars.

I use to work at Circuit city and the car stereo/alarm installer at my work installed it on my 240. I don't have to worry about "wrecking" my car as i NEVER leave it in gear (Turbo Timer). I love my remote start/alarm because it has a built in turbo timer! :D

It just consisted of some relay's and what not. Should have come with your alarm.

my friend installed an alarm with remote start on his G
only downside is that he has to like keep a spare key inside the car so the engine immobilizer would disable

i think they said that because they dont offer a factory remote start. and if you get a lot of service there they wouldnt want you to get it installed elsewhere, something mess up and then you take it to them to fix.
personally i dont think theres anything bad about a remote start. it comes with the proper hardware to hook up, relays and fuses ect. id say about half the people here have remote starts due to winter, its real common. and the manual thing, normally they have it so you have to have the ebrake on to do the auto start to help prevent accidents.

I did audio/alarm installs for thirteen years, as long as it's installed correctly there's no harm in anything you put in to any car. That said, 99% of people take shortcuts or try it themselves and that's why the majority of other people steer away because they hear the horror stories. Have a trained professional install it and you'll never have a problem.

Installing remote start on manual cars is fine. You just have to tap into your neutral sensor on the ECU and remove the clutch safety switch.
Only removing the clutch safety switch and not having any form of prevention incase you accidentally leave it in gear when you start it is a room for disaster.
The only thing you have to worry about now is accidentally starting it in gear manually, you might hurt your ego if anyone is watching.
