View Full Version : Wheel spacers - how to remove when seized?

So, upon trying to remove my spacers I have discovered that they are completely stuck/seized and I can't seem to get them off. We have tried prying and hammering them off but can't fit anything inbetween the spacers at all...
Does anyone have a simple and easy way to get these spacers off in this situation?
On a side note, some of the spacer's studs are *very* wobbley and loose. I am wondering if they has contributed to the steering wheel shake I have....
Thanks!

are they bolt ons?
unbolt the spacer from the hub
bolt wheel back on
yank that shit off.
if they are slip-ons smack them with a hammer a couple times and they should free up.
Assuming they are bolt ons, going from what you mentioned of spacer studs, just do exactly what LongGrain said. Its not hard to remove them, just takes some ingenuity.

thanks guys!
I will have another crack at it tomorrow morning and see what I can do.
I believe they are slip-on's... I don't recall seeing bolts to be undone anywhere on them. But I don't know anything about spacers - I didn't put them on there... I just assumed they slipped on/off as there was a set ontop of them that came off no problem.
I will look again tomorrow and take a pic if necessary
Haha double spacers? Thats all bad... get some better fitting wheels.

heat em up and start banging
Yeah I get you. I meant that more on the part of doing it to get wheels to fit in the first place.

its very easy to tell if they are bolt on or not.
bolt on spacers are BIG

if you only have 1 set of lug nuts to take off, then your spacers are slip-ons

they are pretty big and chunky, but I did not see another set of lug nuts to remove
That said, I may have gone full retard today and not have noticed those... and been trying to pry off bolt ons

there is no such thing as a bolt on spacer.
its called a fuckin WHEEL ADAPTER
not a spacer.
a spacer is just that, a spacer. if it has studs, its a wheel adapter.
I will be waiting for the pictures of this. I'll need a good laugh in the morning.

I get off work at 0530... it will be the first thing I do when I get home
Now I'm curious as to what the hell I have on there too... I do have my blonde moments, so who knows...
It does have its own studs (and they are mostly quite wobbley) and I can see the original studs from the hub underneath.... but I am pretty sure it does not have any bolts, otherwise I would have just unbolted them :smash: although with my luck, it is plain as day and you will all get a good laugh at least!

Update::
They were, in fact, bolt ons.... BUT in my defense, there was a 3mm or so spacer sitting on top of the bolt on's and seized on there, covering the bolts ;) (my bf didn't even realize they were bolts either, so it was not just me being a complete dumb blonde)
After hammering the smaller spacers off and PB blasting the shit out of it all, they came off no problem.
AND my steering wheel no longer wobbles at high speeds
thanks guys :D

That's what I was thinking also. Some penetrating lube will help a lot.
