Today, I was going over everything to double check stuff before I go tune next weekend. I pull my valve cover to double check my base mechanical timing and see that there is some abnormal wear on the #2 intake side cylinder. Here is a picture of the rocker arm. Before the install the rocker arm was in tip top shape. Now you see wear on the surface and some sooty black crap on it.

The cams were brand new jwt c1 cams, new jwt valve springs with stock retainers. All shims were installed in the original locations. The lifters seem fine. I tried to push down on them and they wern't budging.

This happened after only 200-300 miles of driving on this new setup. The cams have abnormal wear on the one lobe also. And right next the the lobe on the cam neck, the metal turned black.

Does anyone know why this might have happened and what should I do from here on. I am for sure going to pull one of my old rocker arms from my old head to replace this one.

since there is no pressure indents, i would suggest oil starvation, check the oiling system in your head.

Well I am pretty sure I found what the problem was. I just took the oil squirter rail for the cams and ran it through some water. Sure enough the #1 and #2 cam lobe squirters had nothing coming out of them.

I'm just glad I caught this prematurely. I am thinking that either the cam or the rocker arm would break if I ran this engine hard on a track day or for a few thousand miles.

Thats a common problem, same shit happens with alot of SR20DE(T), I believe Nissan revised the part with a new part that has slightly larger oiling holes.

the cam is not great but I am going to say that its still ok. I only put about 200 miles on the cam so it didn't do an incredible amount of damage. The cams have marks on them kinda like what you see on the rocker arm pad. I think over time it will wear smooth. I took some 1000 grit sandpaper and smoothed down the lobe and the rocker arm.

The only thing I am worried about is where it turned black on the cam. Not sure why its like that.

Lesson to everyone: Stupid shit like this should be taken care of before installing things. Check everything before installation.

Yea I actually called nissan today to try to get a set of those. I heard the oil squirter rails on the 01 sentra 2.0 are the revised ones. The parts guy couldn't find it though. This was over the phone so I might stop by to show him what I am talking about.

Anyone know the part number for it?
