Not posting threads like these again would be great.

Practice makes perfect. Hit up all the events you can for starters.

You don't need a lot of power. There are plenty people here that haven't even touched their engine. Try putting in a little work and checking out peoples build threads to get an idea of what you should get. I'd get a seat next if I were you.

ya i forgot to say that i have a recaro seat. i really just need seat time, but living on a military base 31 miles from civilization i dont really have a chance

ya the nearest track is a 2 hour drive in good socal traffic. i was thinkin about strut bars, definatley a clutch, maybe going 2.5" straight pipe.
drift button= knob on ebrake that stays in

If there isn't anything closer to you, there isn't much you can do about that. Unless you talk to the CO of your base and see if he wants to host a drift event lol.

im not trying to bitch about the drive, just i work alot and when i do go to the track i want my car to be a lil more fun to drift. i can get tires for days, just want/need seat time.

oh and stay away from street drifting, or you will learn the hard way,

what kind of coils do you have??

DALAZ_68
04-07-2009, 12:31 AM
i say change all and i mean all fluids first...change plugs, plud wires, belts, squeeze all the power u can from the motor, and go to an event

shane22185
04-07-2009, 12:34 AM
ya im trying to focus on susp. i have hks rears and tein fronts. should i weld my lsd? its an aftermarket 1.5 way (locked on power/open off power) and i wont street drift on a military base.

cc4usmc
04-07-2009, 12:36 AM
Are you sure it's an aftermarket lsd and not just a vlsd?

shane22185
04-07-2009, 12:38 AM

See if you can contact someone who owns a lot and just toss him some money.

Set up some cones.

Practice doing donuts and concentrate on perfecting your steering wheel control, throttle control, feel of the car, and just get used to being sideways.

Make sure you practice going left and right.

Once you get the basics down of making donuts start practicing making small donuts into larger donuts and back down to small donuts. This will really help you when it comes time for hitting clipping points.

After the donuts comes the figure eight session which you just set two cones opposite of each other and do a donut and transition into the other cone. This will really help you with transitions.

Those two are really your two most basic foundations of learning to start drifting.

Believe me when I first started I thought it was super lame, but then wish I had done it earlier in the beginning to save me a lot of trouble.

Plus their fun, just a waste of tire though.

Also if you get fustrated because your not doing them correctly then just stop the car get out and take a 5 min break. Usually its easier to learn with a fresh mind rather than just getting mad at yourself and keep fucking up.

Another thing, don't worry about what other say about your drifting, just do it because its fun.

Sooooo....

Before Adams and the Nos Center became available almost everyone from socal was and still is trekking it 2+ hours to Willow Springs.

if your going to replace your clutch your going to have to baby it for 500 good miles b4 clutch kicking it or it will slip all the time,
and please dont to a straight pipe on a single cam i use to have one on my first coupe and it sounded like ass!!, as a matter of fact now that i know you have a single cam save some money and get a good running dual cam cus singles suck for sliding!

i don't really think you can be taught drifting. just go out and break your tires loose. fuckin turn your wheel into the drift, it's not that hard.

You're in SoCal. Go to Drift 101. I did it a couple years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done.

For mods get suspension over power. I'd get tie rods, tension rods, and rear upper control arms at least. If you can afford it, get rear traction and toe arms too. Then get a good alignment.

The best thing you can do is go to events and do it.

so btw, i found a quiet culdasec this morning and went for! it was not as easy as the pros make it look, but not as hard as i thought. cant wait to hit the track up. is it ok to weld vlsd?

Try the "old abandon building parking lot in the middle of no where" drifting.

shane22185
04-07-2009, 09:22 AM
i wish i had an abandoned perking lot here, but im on a base. besides adams in riverside, where else is legal? im north on the 15 towards barstow. if i get busted i lose driving priveldges for a year

shane22185
04-07-2009, 12:52 PM
so the other day i talked to riley at adams and i can reserve time for about 50 an hours not bad trying to go this thursday, and saturday

Just about everything has been said on what to do, But i did notice that no one said get rear toe arms and rear rucas and get an alignment. I would also suggest an aftermarket water temp gauge. if you are going to be beating on your car you will want something to monitor the temps besides that shitty oem temp gauge.

one thing i forgot to take into account is the amount of paved desert roads here. i got 31 miles between here and barstow and about 20 intersections, looks like im practicin at 2 am this morning!

my future plans include pretty much rebuilding my suspension from godspeed, just was wondering wat i should get first, im on a 300 dollar a month budget, including track fees

well i went to adams cart track last nite and totally sucked ass. but i had a blast, and i (sloppily) finally got it down. took out some tires, but had fun. im gonna go to yermo to find a parking lot
