Okay, I know there are a ton of threads on axles out there, but I did not see the answer to this after searching for quite a while.
Here is the scoop. I have a 93 240sx hatch with open diff. The previous owner gave me a VLSD with 5 bolt axles from a Canadian 240sx, but one of the axles is damaged. The diff bolted in perfect and everything, but I need a 5 bolt axle. My question is:
1. 93 J30 5 bolt axles- will these work as a substitute? I believe the will from my research, but not positive.
2. 5 bolt s14 axles- from an s14 with VLSD. These look to be the exact same axles from the pics. Can anyone confirm for me that these axles would work?
Thanks in advance for the help- really hoping the s14 axles will work since I have access to a set right now, but do not have immediate access to a J30 axle.

I'm not sure what will work, but I'd like to check our your build sometime. I'm in Ypsi Area. I'm planning on putting a J30 VLSD into my S14.

There is no S14 5bolt axle, they're all 6bolt. The JDM CA18 powered S13s are 5bolt, those work fine, as do J30s, 92-94 models. The Z32 is 5bolt but too long.

I've heard rumors that j30 5 bolt input shafts on a vlsd will make it run under full lock... something about the input shafts being slightly longer causing this. Has anyone else heard anything of it?

Hmm, okay. The ones I was looking at were listed as "s14 VLSD 5 bolt axles" and look to be the correct ones... the seller said they are the 5 bolt axles that came on an s14 se equipped with the VLSD. Whatever they are, I hope they work.
Here are pics of the ones I am getting:

Have him measure them, they look more like Z32 axles. All S14s, base, SE, open diff or VLSD, are all 6bolt axles across all markets. There never was anything else available.

Hmmm... the diff I got with my car was supposedly a CDM/JDM vlsd for the s13. The axles the guy gave me with the diff look exactly like the ones in the picture. So maybe the VLSD he gave me with the car is not what he said it is?
I have no idea at this point... I bought the axles, so we'll see what happens when they get here I guess. Thanks again for the feedback and I will keep you guys posted.
*If it helps at all, the diff cover on the VLSD I have is the same as the stock s13 open diff cover, 4 bolts and the same bolt pattern, but it has a heat sink on the bottom of it. Otherwise, they seem to be identical, if that helps in identifying it at all.

All S13s have the 4bolt rear cover, but you can tell if it's an S13 case by the front mounts, if they're solid and have no bushings it's an S13. Large holes with bushings it's a J30, S14, or Z32.
The fiined cover on S13s was found on the VLSD models only. Again though, later models used 6bolt axles, and all US models did. The early JDM CA18 powered axles were 5bolt.

Oh alright, my front mounts are solid... so it must be what the guy told me it is.Thanks again for the posts, very helpful!

Thats bologna, the axle shafts are indeed longer well atleast one side is to long and willl not allow for proper axial play on a S13, on a S14 you will be fine. Stock has about 1/2" - 3/4" axial play, with the J30 axles on one side you will have zero axial play I forget which side but I wanna say its the driver side.

I have the same question so what axles do you use for a j30 to work in a S13

The ones you already have. 95-97 J30s are 6bolt and swap right in, just change the rear cover.
