I'm looking for people with personal experience with the s15 SR20DET and the 6 speed tranny.
How do you drive? How has it held up? Do you drift?
any personal experience.

from the research i've done, the gear ratio's are too high to match the stock 4.08 gearset in the diff. So they suck, because your always running a really high RPM, something like 18mph in 1st n shit. dont know if thats accurate but i havent heard anything really good/cool about them. If you REALLY want a 6sp plan on getting an S15 diff as well.
Also heard they are weaker (which only matters if your running alot more power then oem) because they basically stuffed a 6sp in a 5spd gearbox, didnt beef it up just made things smaller/weaker.
search i'm sure theres alot more info than you've gathered so far.

I have, I'm looking for more of an opinion from people who have actually owned it. The posts are out of date, so it's basically an update from people who have one..

you buy the NISMO cross 6spd.. esentially a reinforced gear set s15 trans but with a ficture to run the VSS on the trans not the diff like a s15

The S15 transmission is made by the same company that makes the RX8 6-Speed and they are none to be weak and break around 300~350 WHP.
The gear ratios arent that short...they are shorter but that's the point of a close ratio box.

I've used the 6 speed (cos I have an s15) I've had no problems with it and I tracked the car (circuit stuff). I wouldn't recommend it for drag or drift.
I've now replaced it with a modified Nismo close ratio 6 speed. First and second are taller and fifth is lower. Personally, I like the ratio's of the stock s15 6 speed due to the lower 1st which would be easier to get of the line now that I've got cams, bigger turbo, etc.

Just to let you know if you didn't you will need an s15 diff also since the speedometer gear goes in the diff instead of the tranny. The tranny's fail once you reach 350-400hp. But for them holding up with stock motors and everything they work well. Drifting is ok. You just have to get use to the gearing and then you will be good. Although with drifting the only time something will probably break on them is when you shift into the wrong gear or something like that. Hope this helps.

Some good advice, I was curious about the nismo 6 speed too. Thanks for the awesome feedback guys!

I just researched the nismo and it sounds pretty good. I'm just wandering what are you're power goals and main use? If you want alot of power and a tranny that's going to work well IMO for the price of reinforced missions is just too much compared to the Mazworx adapter and vg30 mission which is very similar to the sr one but just stronger. I priced it and it would cost alittle less than $3k for this swap.

I'm running 388 rwhp on a DD so probably somewhere around 450 or theareabouts on a dynojet.
If the Nismo dies I'm going for an RB 5 speed swap - although I'll miss the nicely spaced ratios of the Nismo.
The VG30 tranny appears to offset shifter slightly to the left - not so good for a right hand drive car like mine. I think there are slight differences between the gear ratios too. VG30 swap is the cheapest option tho'.
