So, i let my gf use my 240SX today to go to work in the morning. She comes back and tells me that she got pulled over and got a ticket because of a loud muffler.

I have basically a stock 240SX hatch KA24E, rims, some mods in engine and the exhaust pipe. I bought the car with the exhaust pipe already on the car, the name of the company that made my exhaust is Bee R. I did some research online and found the company in japan, and it seems like they dont make that style exhaust anymore. Anyways, i passed smog with it and drove with it infront of cops all the time and never got pulled over for some bullshit like this. Yet my gf gets pulled over for having a loud exhaust on the car and driving 20 mph on 25mph residential street. The cop has no noise testing equipment and pretty much THINKS!!! my car is loud.

I SAY FUCK CMPD!!! they threat everyone like shit and think that they are tough asses with their fucking badges and guns! anyways, do i have anything to fight this ticket off with? and is my exhaust street legal or no? i did pass smog with it and drove the car with exhaust pipe (Bee R) for like 5 months now. :bash:

They are rude, threat you like shit, don't follow up on shit unless they are after you. They took my car and license about 7 months ago and the Jamboree Court Judge told me that it's all a fuck up by the CMPD. I never got money or my car back from them, they told me that my car was auctioned a few days before and actually laughed at me while I was on the phone with them. FUCK CMPD and their up the ass attitude!!! :madfawk:

YEAH!!! FIGHT THE POWER!!!1!!1!

Yes, your exhaust is "illegal". In California, all modified exhausts are "illegal". It has nothing to do with passing smog, or if the cop has no testing equipment. If its shiny and it makes noise, expect to get pulled over every now and then.

Gotta pay to play! Now, quit your whining.

Soreballz, you sure do have soreballz!
Never the less thanx for your shitty comment.
i know its cali and what not, but that's bullshit! What about those fucking loud ass mustangs with their Borja exhausts and those fucking ricers!?!? I just hate the fact that he made a priority of pulling over my gf and talking to her about the exhaust, what a SNIP!!! Im sure it was soooo loud that he just absolutely had to write a ticket.

That's just a fix-it ticket if you didn't get reffed for it..Just take it to Westminster CHP near Autobacs and have it signed off. The last time I went, the CHippy didn't even get out of his seat and just signed off on the ticket.. He said he heard my exhaust when I pulled in and it was OK...

I would say to try and fight it - exhausts that are under the old 95dbA limit and don't replace any emissions equipment (cat-backs) are eligible for CARB exemption, so just say yours is a CARB-exempt catback in court.

The worst thing they can do is say "fuck you" and make you pay the fine.

Poor baby.

Complaining about a $10 dollar fix-it ticket.

You live in California.

Smog Nazi nation.

Deal with it.

Did the laws change? I thought we just need the exhaust to be under 95db? Apexi used to have a PDF bulletin, clarifying this part of the vehicle code to print especially for CHP in case you ever got hassled. Yeah, cops can ticket you without testing, but if your exhaust tests below 95db, you can get it written off.

Roll the dice.

Excessively noisy exhaust systems and mufflers (27150, 27151 VC). Many aftermarket exhaust systems and parts are illegal. Look for parts that meet California law. If it doesn't say it meets the law, it probably doesn't.

Exhaust systems which meet smog requirements but are still too loud. Exhaust equipment that states it is, "Legal in all 50 states," refers to smog, not noise.
Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.

http://www.chp.ca.gov/community/streetlegal.html

Read up on the vehicle code, or at least the infarction they write you up for. A lot of officers aren't even up to par with it themselves, so at least if they cite you, you can be sure if you deserve it or not. Too many people pussy out and just pay up. Don't be one of them.

General California rule:

ANY MODIFICATION TO YOUR CAR IS ILLEGAL!

And leave it be.

you neglect to mention WHY they took your car and license so i can only assume that it was for doing something stupid. therefore, i don't feel bad. no one FORCED you to drive a modified car, and no one ever FORCED you to do anything that would give a police officer cause to pull you over.

cali is a car nazi state. that subject has been beaten to death. instead of starting multiple threads whining about it, why don't you do something constructive, like building a car using carb legal parts.

or take advantage of the MANY MANY "legal" loopholes around tuned cars. like out of state plates or getting an exemption as an alternative fuel vehicle.

in other words quit whining.

you sound like you deserve the ticket. good luck in life.

and johnny. they are no longer fix it tickets. last year laws past that modified muffler is a 100 something dollar ticket, and if u keep getting them each time the price goes up a percentage.

I just received a ticket yesterday morning in Temple City on S. bound Temple City Blvd and Garibaldi.

non-correctable violation
27156(b) vc - modified or missing smog device.

He pulled me over because my 5zigen border III was shiny. Then he proceeded to request my hood open while stating hes taken the "modified parts training". He had no clue what he was looking at under my hood even after i pointed out that all the emissions were still being used.

Ended up with a white sticker on the back of my ticket... for all the noobies who complain about getting tickets, it means we were cited for gross pollution, modified parts, loud, exhaust or a combination of any VC codes in general and must go see a State Ref.

Moral of the story is; at one point or another modfied cars will all get caught. So keep parts as legal as you can with ARB or "CARB EO" certs and stamped plates on the parts to make things easy for the ref to approve.

FYI: did you know that every month there is a new focus of target for citations at every station?

This month is Illeagal Modifications Month ALL STATIONS IN SO CAL.

You can actually blame this on a newly released movie.

Side note:
A friend from GPD says all offices meaning Sheriff, HP & Police are activly and specifically looking for any vehicles that may be modified for tickets to be given. The line they will use is "you street racers with modified cars make the streets unsafe".

I guarantee no pre 75' American Muscle Cars will be treated the same. pre 1975 American = FREE PASS

The moment I hear this line, is the moment I ask for the officer's badge and state profiling and discrimination because of the car I drive.

very true... but the best we will typically see from a judge is a ticket thrown out with no slap on the wrist to officer.

I've tried twice in my lifetime and have only succeeded once.

BTW: had my 4yr old nephew in a car seat with me and a helmet in the back seat too. I also stated that "WE KEEP IT ON THE TRACK". He had nothing to say...

Truth. I doesn't matter if it shoots black smoke, flames, and is so loud that it breaks windows and makes ears bleed, as long as it has a license plate and working lights, cops do not give a fuck. lol

Just because a car is smog exempt, doesn't make it BAR exempt. I know Phil saw pre-75 muscle car at the ref once time.

Fuck dealing with all of this.

I'm happy daily driving my stock S-chassis.

Sure, it's slow, isn't slammed, and doesn't drop panties, but it beats having to deal with all of the bullshit from cops these days.

A driveway ornament is cheaper than tickets these days.

yeah id like to know the ratio of domestic/import. Maybe like 5 domestic to 100 import a month?

Funny thing is I saw a black and white 57 chevy 2 door post with huge steamrollers in the back 3 blocks away from my ticket loc. Full tub and 4-link suspension with a BDS (8-71?) popping out of the hood. Doubt i see Vin D. at the ref...

Well aware.

Still, 99.9999% of cops aren't going to enforce anything other than speeding tickets with muscle cars. They just don't give a shit.

My neighborhood is chill as fuck.

I can leave my windows open with the doors unlocked at night and nothing will happen.

Not that I do, but it's just that cool.

Well, I sometimes forget to mention that it's kind of non-op right now with a massive EGR pipe leak.

Haha.

Stupid thing.

After picking up the blast pipes from Ray(swayray), I parked it and kicked my door out of frustration.

Back in the daily I go.

Agreed. My car looks and sounds better driving than it does sitting, plus it's driving SO well now, that I can't not drive it. I've been very fortunate to not have any cop drama in the S14, but then again I'm not a teenager, the car's not 8 colors, and it's definitely under 95db.

I'd imagine there's some JDM-fanboy cop somewhere that would love to chat about SR's with me after popping my hood... I'm just not interested in finding him.

Lol, that sucks. Junkyard time

I got a new EGR pipe from Nissan for the S13's KA... was cheap, and didn't have to worry about pulling one off some rusted junkyard motor.

Johnny, go see Ray lol.
