Yesterday while I was on the way to class on Route 1, my car (SOHC) started sputtering and died while I was in 5th gear going around 70. It felt like the time when I ran out of gas (around this time last year). I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start it. The motor would crank over but wouldn't cut on as if I had run out of gas. I had just filled up the day before and I was on half a tank. I check under the hood if all the connectors were still attatched like the ignition coil and maf and everything's still on. Fortunately, a maroon S14 owner named Bart saw me on the side of the road and stopped to see if everything was alright and even called a tow truck to come bring my car home. What pissed me off the worst is that after damaging the bottom of my bumper getting on the flatbed and still shelling out money for the tow truck, I try starting the car again and it starts !! A friend of mine who graduated UTI said he thinks it has something to do with my fuel while Bart (the S14 who stopped to help) said something in my electrical system overheated and then cooled down on the flatbed. Either way, I changed my fuel filter to a new 300ZX unit and I installed a new Accel ignition I had laying around in my basement. My question is, what do you guys think the problem was? Another suggestion I got was my dizzy is going bad or my fuel pump is going bad (I doubt it). Thanks for any help.

When this happens does the motor cut out suddenly like you have no spark or does it die slowly like it's not getting enough fuel? If it's the former, it sounds like an electrical issue that I had but if it's the latter then it sounds like a fuel system problem.
The issue that I had was that it would drive normally but then quickly cut out after a short time driving. I could wait 30 minutes and start it up again with no problems and the same thing would happen after a short trip. The problem for me was a bad ignition coil and a bad distributor.
Try to recreate the situation if you're not sure. Try letting your car idle or drive it around until it dies again. If you don't know why it's dying you might replace parts that don't need replacing.

Most likely I am going the Walbro route. :)

When it happened (and it only happened that one time), it felt like the motor started sputtering as if in little bursts. I let off the gas a bit and pressed it again and the same thing happened. I took the car out of gear and the car shuts off.
I took it to work today and nothing happened at all other than a rough startup which necesitated me kicking the gas a bit to get it to really start. Albeit, my job is only about a mile from my house.
Tomorrow, I'm going to drive around for around an hour in my town to see if anything happens. I don't want to take it too far.

Damn, I would go the walbro route too then lol. Whenever possible I buy OEM parts.. the quality just isn't there in aftermarket. I went through 3 different brands trans output shaft seals.. Installed OEM and no leaks, lol.
I'm running a walbro too.. but I really want a Tomei(high output OEM) pump.
Will the walbro change Nico's fuel pressure??
Good luck with the car Nico! I'm curious to know what happens. Keep in touch bro.

Fuel pump. If you are N/A, try to find an OEM replacement. The Walbro's pump too much fuel and you will run WAY too rich.

I got a new "Airtex" oem replacement pump for free the other day. I would love to get a great quality OEM replacement pump but the Walbro's so tempting lol. Thanks again for everything Bart !!

Thanks, yeah I hope it's just the fuel pump. I don't want to have to change my dizzy out.

I believe there are two kinds for the S13. One OEM replacement and one that's an "upgrade." I was only gonna get the OEM replacement one but even if I do get the "upgrade," won't my stock injectors limit the fuel delivery to just "stock" levels?

Fuel pump was not the problem. Car did the same thing yesterday on the way to work. Luckily, the car started up right before the exit to get to my job so me and a buddy pushed the car to my job's parking lot where I've had it sitting overnight.
This time, when the car started acting up on the highway, I just put it in neutral and pulled to the side but hte car did not turn off. When I presson the accelerator, the car seems to bog down and the RPM's go down to 0. It also backfires a shitload when I do this. The car also turns on when it wants to. Sometimes the car will turn on and idle but when I try it another time, the car will just crank and crank and crank. New fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition coil. I'm truly stumped guys !! :(

*NEW INFO*
I got to work today where I left the car and yes, it does turn on. I was able to make a U turn and move it around the parking lot but when the car reaches 2K rpm, the car does the bogging again.
