What do you guys think about boring the cylinders to 87mm and installing z32 OEM pistons in a stock SR20DET? Won't it just increase the compression which is no good for turbocharged motors?

Why would you even consider this?

Because its a cheap forged piston alternative. FWD SR20 guys have been doing this for years.
To the OP, do a search, there was a guy who did this about 6 months ago. Also, im pretty sure it wont raise your compression, iirc, theyre also 8.5:1 comp.

good info, didn't know you could do that

Compression in the SR block will be about 9.5:1, and you will have to mill down the rods a bit.

I have another question. If I bore the cylinders to 88mm and install CP pistons, do I need to get it tuned? everything else is going to be stock.

The engine must be Sleeved to go larger than 87mm or .040 over
I would recommend a JE option to keep it a bit less expensive for 87mm bore.
I have a set of 87mm JE in stock w Rings if you are interested.
An aftermarket piston is recommended over a stock type piston especially if you are doing a full rebuild, and you cannot guarantee the integrity of the used piston you would be getting.
Let me know if you need help with the motor build.

I am thinking about using vg30dett pistons in a SR build i'm doing. I hear they can hold plenty of power and since i'm only looking to make at most 350hp they should be plenty fine. only reason i am looking to overbore is due to the fact that one of my cylinder walls got scored otherwise i would do a oem rebuild. looking to get the pistons soon and have the block bored out right after that.

it has been a popular mod for FWD SR20DE owners that needed better pistons to turbo charge thier SR20.

The main reason to stay away from a stock type piston is they are prone to breaking the ring lands on the skirt of the piston.
More than likely this is what caused the scratching Timtiminy described above... Let me guess cylinder #3 too right ?
If you are pulling the engine down for rebuild, do not skimp on the important stuff, get yourself a good set of forged pistons, some eagle rods ( if youre on a cheaper budget ), and a good quality set of bearings.
Please let me know if you need help with any parts.
Thank you,
Robert
