View Full Version : The pop-up headlight jiggle!

searched couldnt find anything on it

i noticed its a pretty common problem for pop-up headlights

when in the "up" position, driving over bumps or rough roads the headlight jiggles around

with the light up, i can take my hand and jiggle it with about 1-2mm of play, i can tell its coming from the motor rod and the little shaft with the hole in it that makes the light go up and down.

i saw that the plastic clip is worn and probably not as tight as it should be

its really starting to piss people off at night time, they think im flashing my high beams at them on and off.

any easy fix for this?

The little arms that attach to the motor hook on using a ball joint, usually after a crash or fatigue the arms develop play, and that is where the jiggle comes from.

Just replace the parts from the factory can't be TOO much.

the first time I replaced them new in 1996, It was $50 a arm.

At that price, everyone else can suffer , lol!
But really, your car is probably bounceing around so hard on the suspension that the little arm adjusting 1-2mm, is irrelevant.

Fucking had a bad day (unless there was something else I didn't catch...)?

Anway, to the OP. One thing you can try to do is adjust the rod so that the entire assembly will point a lil higher (the rod is adjustable). This will tighten up the slack on the arm. From there, you need to remember to readjust your headlights. That should help w/ the wiggle somewhat unless your plastic bushings are REALLY gone. It fixed my problems when I still had pop-ups.

I really dont have any ideas for ya.
I got the same issue.
But like I stated above, its not gonna be that big of a difference.
you suspention on a shitty freeway is gonna do it.
I point my headlights down a little and it doesnt seem to bother anyone.

(I also live in LA/Hollywood. probably not suggested for rural places)
