I went from a factory SMIC on my PS13 to a FMIC setup. The motor is completely stock other than the frontmount and piping. It still has the stock exhaust.

The problem I'm having, is during WOT, when I hit about 3.5-4K RPM power drops, and then picks back up and the motor continues to rev smoothly until redline. The car still runs flawlessly in every other aspect. The car did not do this before the FMIC/piping install.

At first, I thought, easy. boost leak. I built a boost leak tester and tested my IC piping. I found a couple small leaks, and corrected them. The piping was holding pessure great for a very long time. Expecting them to clear up the problem, I took a drive. The problem remained.

Thoughts?

My first thought was a boost leak. Might also be ur turbo starting to go or even a vacuum leak. Check turbo shaft for play and see if any of the turbo blades are bent. Also check the grommet connecting turbo to hot pipe. If you have an aftermarket header w/o a heat shield you can melt that grommet and it will have similar effects. happened to me already.

i figured it out.

I guess the ECU was freaking out because of the extra lag caused by the larger intercooler volume. It messed up the functioning of the factory boost controller. I disabled it, and man the car feels slow at 7psi vs 11, but at least it accelerates smooth now. Bogging is gone, and MBC here I come.
