Soo...my SR started knocking and I'm pretty sure its a main bearing so I decided to do a full build. I'm looking for 450-500whp. The car's going to be used as street driven drift car.To be honest I've never build and engine so I'm looking for your guy's suggestions.
What I have:
- zenki SR20DET w/ vvt from an s14
- fmic with 2.5" aluminum piping
- Greddy RS bov
- Greddy oil pan
- knock off mishi radiator
- 3" dp & tp

I'm willing to spend money for quality. The car will be making trips 300-400 miles.
I would like to run a top mount.
I'm looking for suggestions on:
- internal engine set up (compression, pistons, rods, cams, bearings, machine work)
- rear diff + axles
- engine management
- Turbo and manifold
- wideband and egt gauge

I'm also looking for machine shop in the Florence, SC and Savannah, GA area.
Thanks guys! ^-^

i strongly recommend our machine shop we use, which happens to be right next door to our shop lol. We're located in north, GA

i'd recommend going 9:1 compression so you can make your power goals yet still have decent spool / low end torque

you can call the shop tomorrow and talk with Derek more about your build

Thanks :) I'll give him a call.

Meanwhile I just bought a Garrett GT3540R .82
Soo..if you could also figure that into your suggestions.

I'm looking at full-race manifolds. Will the twin scroll function work with my turbo and if so..is it worth $350 difference (from equal length)?

^-^

yes if your going to go with a 35r i would definately go with a twin-scroll version to help with the spool.that is a pretty laggy turbo.if i were you i would go with a full-race twin-scroll mani with a forced performance hta 3076r.this is the setup im after next.this should spool well and definately hit your power goals!

A GT35 is definitely big enough for your power goals. You can get the twin scroll manifold and twinscroll turbo from fullrace. Their GT3582R turbo is what I was thinking about getting. That turbo might be a bit too laggy for you so you can get a GT3076R like ross was talking about and that turbo can max out at 525hp.

As for building your motor, im not sure how much experience you have with it or how much your looking to spend but you can buy a complete built block from mazworx that is already assembled and they also do whatever head work you want

Sounds good guys but I've already went with the GT3540R :) looks like I'm getting the shoehorn manifold.

Here's another question..wg. What size should be sufficient? I've looked at the Tial 44mm...?
Also I'm looking to order rods and pistons. I'm looking at eagle rods but I'm not sure what compression pistons to get. I'm thinking about 9.1:1 or 8.5:1? What do you guys suggest? :)

44mm should work fine. I'd definetely look into doing a 2.2l stroker with 9.0:1 compression if you're running that size turbo. Drifting with that size turbo is going to be interesting for you. In my honest opinion it's going to be hard with the lag. Power goals will be easily met though. I'd go with a kaaz 2way diff and def. get hardened axles from driveline shop. Tuning pretty much depends on where you're going to get the car tuned. Ask you're tuner what he prefers. That way he is using something that he's used to using.

So..I've been gathering parts..slowly lol.

Now I'm looking at getting BC 272 Cams, Springs, Retainers, and Valves. I was wondering..Do I will need rocker arm stoppers?

You've spent a lot of money, just go ahead and pick some up. The Nismo ones are only $150 (I say only because we are talking about BC cams etc haha). Better safe than sorry with that much money in the motor already.

No need for rocker arm stoppers, they are a waste of money. I'd spend the extra on some better cams. Personally I'd suggest the JWT S4's or C1's. Both are very streetable and will make great power. I made 407hp at 16psi with the S4's. I would actually say if money comes down to it get the S4's and leave the rest of the valvetrain stock over running the BC setup. I had the BC stuff and swapped out to Supertech valvetrain after only 1000 miles and they had signifigant wear already. I ran the S4's on stock springs/retainers at 400hp for 3 years reving to 8K with no problems. Your turbo choice seems geared more towards making over 500hp. It will work but is going to have some lag. You can help with the Twin scroll housing and manifold and would be a fun car that way. I still think that turbo is a bit overkill for that power level.

Deffinately go 9:1 compression, makes for much better low/mid range as it helps spool the turbo quicker and with that turbo I think you'll want that. Especially if you drive it on the streets a lot.

Thank you.. :) you guys been a lot of help!

OK...As as far as engine management..any suggestion..with this I really have no clue on..I thought I know but I get confuse the more I do research >_<
Arm stand alone, power-fc, or greddy ultamate? or other suggestions?

get better rods than eagle there crap break easy anything over 500 and go wit 9:1 compression ratio for the pistions the s15 has them stock and you'll bump your displacement up to 2.2L if you go with 9:1 and 90mm
and the tial v44 is fine thats what i'm runnin on my GT3582R setup and a ram horn is a good manifold to go with no log manifolds the break to easy
good luck

1. yes get RAS. who ever said its not needed is plainly not doing some hw. all the money your gonna put into this, it would be a waste if you blew your motor because of such a cheap part. dont over look that.
2. get a power fc or a haltech. yes they are more expensive than the greddy ultimate, but you need it to achieve that kinda power.

Eagle rods have been known to take over 700whp. Ask me how I know (my 4g63 days). I know plenty of ppl running these rods with no problems. They're a good bang for your buck.:s101:

As for compression I agree, 9.1 is the way to go. Not too crazy that you have to run race gas everywhere but will give you the extra mid-range power while spooling the turbo a little quicker. I would get the RAS if I were you and have the head fully ported/done. With that size turbo and .82 it'll be pretty laggy down low so you might want to bump the red-line a bit to get full use of that turbo.

Goodluck either way!!! :)

For your power goals - that can be achieved with a far smaller turbo - GT3076R
is the turbo i would recommend, will keep you in a good spool range with good response.
Please let me know if you need any help.

:D

that pic will get you ALOT of attention...

Turbo : GT3076 > GT35R lag wise
Manifold : Fullrace > ALL
Fmic : Ebay = Greddy.
Intake mani : ISIS = Freddy = Greddy (it's the same)
Cams : HKS > Tomi > JWT (best $$$/HP)
Clutch : Spec > All (money wise).
Rods : BC
Pistons : CP 9:1
Valve train : BC
Ras : a MUST
Radiaitor : KOYO Or mishito (SP?)
Bearinig : dono : kalvity 77 i think ?
Crank : machined Stock > all ($$$/Hp wise).
flywhell : light is better
DS : driveshaft shop alu. is good.
axels : unless you are planing to DRAG the car....don't get aaxels...or lunch from Zero....MY friend 550 whp LS7 powerd S14 (track car) is ruunning on stock axels.
Diff : againe : no DRAG or Dr"a"ft...i think the Stock VLSD is ok...HLSD is better.
short shift : B&m is ok.
---------
ECU : Get EITHER of these :

1 - AEM EMS .
2 - Motec M600.
3 - Haltch E8. (or E11).

And since you will pay alot of $$$$....please please please...stay the fuck away from :
JWT-enthlepy etc BS tune
Power fc is about the same price as the EMS
greddy BS
And and "piggy back" BS

-----------
Injector : since you are going All Out...i'd say go with 8x0 cc 0r 1000's...better for 2morow..

------

Oh and don't forget brakes (Z32 is mineum reqiured).
COILOVER : i think Stance GR+ Pro is ok.
tires to hold : like RT615 or somthing like it...

------

hope that i've helped..

Kind Regards,

Ali
