View Full Version : SOHC idle problems...pls help...

idle keeps jumpin from 900-1500......
i pulled off the intake manifold and put new gaskets and new vacuum hoses. checked all the hoses and everything else. new plugs, rotor, cap, wires. checked the TPS cleaned the maf and the Idle sensors. im out of ideas....

The first thing I would say would be vacuum leak, but you said you got that covered. Check it again though.

Next guess would be timing

When you got a new cap and rotor etc. you might have not set the timing properly.

vacuum leak is wat i thought too...ive checked like 3-4x nothing....timing is right on mark......i built this POS engine myself.....iono im out of ideas....

pcv valve. i have one for frees for you brand new

ok i checked the pcv valve, fuel filter, clean the idle sensors again. rechecked for vacuum leaks. im out of ideas.....someone pls help....

I am almost certain that is the IACV that is at fault. If you remove the fuel lines ans bracket on the side of the intake manifold you will see some epoxy. Under that epoxy is a brass fitting. Remove both and the spring and plunger that are inside. Clean everything with TB cleaner or brake parts cleaner and reassemble.

I am almost certain that is the IACV that is at fault. If you remove the fuel lines ans bracket on the side of the intake manifold you will see some epoxy. Under that epoxy is a brass fitting. Remove both and the spring and plunger that are inside. Clean everything with TB cleaner or brake parts cleaner and reassemble.
yeah i cleaned that too....nuttin help...new gaskets on the intake manifold.....still need help.....:(

yeah from wat my friend said. it either the EGR stuck or i need a new maf....

Another thing to try

Step 1: While the car's running, disconnect power supply to #1 fuel injector...
Step 2: If the car still runs poorly, replace the power supply to #1 fuel injector...
Step 3: Repeat with #2, 3, 4 or until the car runs well with said injector pulled. That is your faulty injector (if you have one)

my SOHC coupe had a similar issue.

the coupler between the intake and throttle body was split open on the bottom
