View Full Version : Diagnostic Test Mode II code 21 or 12

I have a 1993 S13 Hatchback and I have an "maintenance light" in the dashboard on. I consulted the S13 manual (EF & EC-43) and found out that I have the Diagnostic Test Mode II code 21. However, is it true that code 21 doesn't give you the "maintenance light" in the dashboard? The ECU give me 3 blink lights. I think it is either 21 or 12.

Currently, the cars run fine without any problem. If it is code 21 Ignition signal circuit, my car wouldn't start, right?

If it is code 21, where can I find the harness and connector and power transistor unit?

Please advise.

Code 21 is primary ignition fault. Could be the coil, power transistor, or the camshaft position sensor circuit. Check all the front portion of the wiring harness for chafing or damage as well as the plugs for each component. The car will run fine even if there's a code stored, you'll just have an aggravated condition as it occurs.

does anyone have a list of all the codes... i need to do the diagnostic on my ecu tomorrow.

Under the hood. You do know what a coil is, right? You're scaring me.

The coil is mounted on the driver fender well, the transistor is mounted to it. CMPS is internal within the distributor.

Download an FSM for more info, this is basic auto maintenance.

I followed the FSM page EF & EC-104, 105, 161, and 168. The only thing that I can't take off is the "resistor and condenser harness connector." Any tips on removing it? And where can I buy one? I googled but cannot find the part "resistor and condenser harness connector."

Please advise.
