I think they went out of business...? I haven't heard much from them since the KA-T motor sets they marketed awhile back...

They went out of business.
I hope they are in tons of debt for building shitty engines.
Fuck Top Hat.

Bad Experience? Did you have your motor built by them? Curious.

My KA-Twas built by them.
Once I finally got my engine after all the bull shit I had to put up with, my timing chain tensioner broke 1000 miles later.
The valvetrain was really loud, and the only thing that was different was a three-angled valve job.
The engine itself lasted less than two years, due to a broken snap ring on the wrist pin. That probably wasn't their fault, but it was still a bad experience overall.
I wouldn't have gone through them in the first place, but I was pressed for time, lived 200 miles away at college, and needed an engine a.s.a.p. Now I'm in the process of building the engine the way it should have been built by Top Hat.
For the record, Mike, the owner, is a good guy. He just had incompetent people working for him.

Top hat mounts are shit... I watched mine bend as i rested the motor down on top of them. Their holes are off on the tranny mount too. Buy McKinney or make your own..

I bought something from them like 6 years ago for my RB20 swap, I think a 3" cat. No problems, but there's not much to go wrong with a cat.

No boost = less stress.
I would be more reluctant to boost a two year old Top Hat engine than I would a stock KA24DE with 120,000 miles on it.

I met Mike once; he didn't strike me as a brilliant guy. I've had some friends get work done there before, but with mediocre experiences. It seems good riddance.

Wow... I had no idea they had so many issues. I've personally seen two people with their motors. 180sxdrifter and another buddy of mine... and both their cars run awesome. (one boosted one not). Both guys got their motors a while ago when I first heard of top hat.. Maybe there was a quantity vs. quality issue on their later motor builds?
