sup guys its me again. just did an oil change on my s13 sr20 blacktop for the first time and was wondering if the oil filter that i used is the right one. reason i ask is because the filter that was on there was much bigger than the new one i got from nissan over in duarte. the old one model number is: AY100-TY015 by Pit Work. new filter is: 15208-53J0A by Nissan.:duh: thanks guys

as long as it screws on the the gasket is the right size, it's the right filter.

hey make sure u get the right one or else at high rpm it will pop the filter out and ur screw. Here is the right one for s13 blacktop n redtop that you could use from the se-r= 15208-53j00. This is for a fact because i have a s13 blacktop as well and i use some another model but from the se-r as well and it filter fell off on me. GL man.

ps- there are other filters from other cars that you can use as well though

Toyota part number 90915-YZZF1 works too. I have a 98 toyota corolla that uses that filter also. That way I can make just one trip to the toyota dealer and buy filters for both my toyota and my nissan. I have a s13 sr20det and have been using that filter for the past 4 or 5 oil changes. Also this filter is about an .5-1 inch longer so just a tad more oil capacity.

Also Toyota filters are made by Denso which are supposed to be one of the better filters out there.

The Napa filter (which is made by Wix) is 1396. Very good quality filter imho.

Explain how an oil filter can produce better oil pressure.

Talking bout back from the dead. See, i searched!!!

Why do people say redtops use 91ser filters but blacktops use 95ser filters? Dont both engines have identical oiling systems? Why cant you use one filter on both?

2. If running a relocation kir, can one use the largest filter that threads on and seals regardless of make, model? Ie: arent all filters the same thing, just made in different sizes?

!Zar!
12-02-2011, 10:28 AM
It won't screw on because they are different sizes.

Yes you can run a huge filter if you want. If you are running something gargantuan I suggest priming your oil system after oil changes before starting the car.

gotta240
12-03-2011, 11:40 AM
Thanks!!!! So to clarify, filters dont have different pressure relief valves, or resistance to them? Just different sizes, right?

Why doesnt everyone stop running these tiny ass filters then? Its not like the sr20 carries a lot of oil as is.....it needs every additional drop you can fit

!Zar!
12-03-2011, 12:13 PM
sr20's don't really have a problem with oil capacity. The problem with them is their shitty oil pickup.

overpriced for sure.. expecially for something you are going to be replacing in a few months.

i have used every different brand of oil filter, and my oil always comes out the same in the end.

i have heard rumors of fram's exploding on big-block mudding trucks... but i havent seen pictures or anything to proove or dis-proove it.

edit...

here is a good showing of the comparisson between a few "popular" filters...

Dont know if its an update or not but the new napa filter book calls for a 1394 filter for the 1991 2.0 sentra

Well, in Japan, I was running larger filter off Skylines. Then again, not sure if the oil filter relocation kit I'm using is a mix and matched setup.

I got buddies who swear up and down on Toyota filters, just cant remember off the top of my head which filter. I think he said Tacoma...again not 100% and no clue on the year. He had box full of it...

I'm very surprised nobody said anything about the purolator pure one sooner. Fail. Teflon infused poly oring and drainback valve win.

Explain how an oil filter can produce better oil pressure.

The two constraints that hold engineers to filters are mainly maximum flow and minimum particle size. When creating a filter to handle .01 micron particles, it's hard to allow a lot of fluid flow to pass through per unit time.

With a greater more free flowing filter element, pressure DROP across the filter paper is decreased, which increases your effective oil pressure at its destination.

Dont you mean S13 blacktop/redtop : 91 SER

S14/S15 Blacktop : 95 SER.

redtop oil filter thread is 3/4 -16 unf-2b sae thread. blacktop and later model is m20x1.5 thread . It almost interchangeable but its not tight. My friends just replacing his main and rod bearing because he uses metric one on the red top. The oil filter just fell off.

I dont see how this is so hard to figure out.. There are plenty of vendors on this site that sell SR20det specific oil filters, both S13 and S14/15. So just order online..

Not at all. I know for a fact that S13 Sr's and S14 Sr's are different thread patterns. S14 Sr's have M20 x 1.5 thread pattern and the S13's are different. Not 100% on the actual thread pattern but they're different.

The filter that I use for S14 SR is one for the GTR. Napa gold number 7356. It's got a decent size and flows more than most others that fit for the same thread pattern.

This is getting blown way out of proportion. Op , walk into an auto store, ask for a filter for a 1993 nissan sentra se-r, ???, profit. That is what I do each time. Mobile 1 filter

This thread helped me, so i thought i"d give back.
For a 95 sr20det notch top.
Been using an oil filter for a 08 350z Mobil one part#M1-108. It's smaller then the stock sr filter, so on my next oil change took the old oil filter to pep boys and 45 min later found a filter from a 09 GTR, Mobil one part# M1-110, Royal purple part# 10-2867.
fits perfect and is taller.
