I've got 3 240s. All of which need work. Some major, some minor. But either way, I'm really down and out about them.
I've got a 92 Coupe, a 93 Vert, and a 98 KA-t. The coupe blew a head gasket, so I got a replacement motor. It ended up being a bad motor. The Vert had been wrecked and the front suspension all needs replaced. Not to mention the motor smokes and feels like molasses. The KA-t runs ok, but have no idea if it's tuned right. As far as I know it's running way high or low A/F and will blow any day. (no where near by to get it tuned. Would have to tow it like 200+ miles for that) Not to mention, it had been rear ended and needs a lot of body work & paint.
So I'm just frustrated. I'm in a ton of credit card debt and need out of it. I just bought a house and am struggling to stay on top of it all with all these cars breathing down my neck.
Should I just give up 240s altogether and sell out? Or what would you do? I'd love some great advice from someone that would understand.
Even good advice where to get a motor rebuilt, or buy a rebuilt motor would be great. I'd rather not spend $2000-$3000 on a motor. Maybe one of you guys could rebuild one of these motors for me. I'd trade you 2 extra motors for one good one! *laugh*

You need to get rid of all the crap and just save the good parts for one car.
Then since you have tune problems, you can either call Scott at Enthalpy and tell him your setup and he car burn you a rom tune, or sell your ka-t setup and go SR.
Nothing sucks more than having money tied up in a little bit of everything.
Get it all into once car and use whatever you can afford to get a hold of a reliable DD and you're set.

i'm in a similar situation. i own the four cars listed in my sig. i'm on unemployment. and i have a mortgage to pay. these cars are never getting done. i've been dreaming about a licensed, properly running 240 for like three years now.
as soon as the Valiant is sorted out, it's up for sale, and all Valiant money is going into the 240.

people say that but in some cases that's not an option.
i need a reliable car. hence Acura.
i'd like a fun, cheap, balanced car i can beat on. hence 240.
the Galaxie is a goddamn heirloom.
the Valiant, that i can scratch.

yes it does so.
Like someone else said sell all three and buy one nice one. Unless they mean something to you I would just move on. Then you will have a reliable car and not have to worry about the burden of fixing three.
ps. i'd be interested in the 98 :mepoke:

sell them. or at least 2 of them. there isn't really any reason to have more than one...
There are a lot of reasons to own more than one. It make the neighbors all wonder what OCD you have to own that many of the same old ass cars....it makes your parents and inlaws ask why you have no room in your back yard for anything else! lol....but, I find that having more than one for myself is that I love them. I run an abused/neglected 240sx rescue.
In all seriousness though...OP.... here is what I would do.
I would pick which car would be the easiest to get running. Sell off/part out the other 2. I would use that money to pay of the credit card bills. Nothing sucks worse than having money to owe on a CC.
With the economy in the crapper how it is...I would work on getting out of Debt first...good debt such as a house is ok to have...we all know that takes time. The more CC you have, and the more that you owe on them the lower your credit score. Pay them all off and then cancel all but one. Always have at least one for your credit rating and emergencies. All of the others are just begging to get you into trouble.
Also, call your CC companies. Ask them to lower your interest rate or you will be forced to pay them off with another company or a loan (even if you really can't the threat will make them want to keep you and your interest money thus they will usually lower your rate).
There are a few other things you can do, but that would be wayy too much to read.
Good luck, sell off the others and concentrate on one. ;) Trust me, we have a few here it gets annoying keeping up with housework, yardwork, cars, kids everything. haha

You just have to get rid of them.
Keep the most reliable one and call it a day.
Best case scenario would be to sell them all, and put the $ on a dp for a new car.
I used to own 6 junkers (2 eg civics, old crx, old miata, 240sx, & a pos fd)
I eventually got it down to 2 (financing a new evo & kept the money pit 240).
Financing a new car was not that much more $ than maintaining 5 old cars, esp given my bad luck.
I also tried living the Los Angeles life-style, and tried financing 2 new cars at one time (evo and civic si).
just the payments alone worked out to be 60% of my income.
not practical or comfortable, but it was kinda fun.
eventually I crashed my civic and that was the end of it.
I know for a fact I'd be happier without my 240, but I don't have the heart to do so.
2 cars would really be optimal.
get a new nicer car to drive around in, and a fun reliable beater to rack up the miles.
I personally could never own less than 2 cars.
driving around in the same car every day is something i find unbearably depressing.

Wow you guys. Actually, I got MORE input than I expected I would. Some funny (which is a good thing) and some good advice.
A little explination on my situation though. At first I owned a 99 Civic, and decided to get the 98' 240sx because it's a more fun car. I decided the Civic was just a POS and sold it. So I had one car, and that made me nervous. So what better than another 240! So I bought a coupe. It had run great for about a year. In the process my girlfriend at the time needed a car, so I bought a Vert for her to beat around in with all future hopes in turning it into my daily driver.
Well, that's kind of where it all went south. *laugh* I ended up splitting ways with her, and finding myself paying rent on a place that was way too big for me. Then invested in a house with way cheaper mortgage than I was paying in rent. All in hopes to get out of debt! Now I'm sitting here with a 3 cars that all need work and am just overwhelmed!
And my debt... That came from Hurricane Dennis in 2005. Basically, my home and everything (but my cars) got destroyed. With no decent job, multiple car payments, etc. I ended up living off my credit cards. On top of that, my old partner stole about 30k from my business which I used to own. So I ended up inheriting a lot of that debt too! It's been a struggle, and I am slowly getting on top. But the only stress in my life (other than my crazy job and my house) is having the fear of not having a car that runs.
The car that runs the best is my 98' KA-t. I've already got it tuned by Scott an Enthalpy actually. So I know it's a rough tune. I'd just like it to be perfect. I mean hell, I've got a safc2 to tweak it. I've even got a wideband that I haven't installed yet. I'm just afraid to do the tuning myself that I'll f'ck it up and blow the thing! Otherwise, the 98 just needs some bushings replaced from lowering it, and body work. (I've got a 6pc. body kit that needs installed, the paint sucks, and it was lightly rear ended <- nothing crazy serious) Which I guess most of that could wait except getting a couple bushings installed. Just makes me nervous that it isn't going to "last" because of the boost.
So, anyone want to make me an offer on my coupe and my vert? I'll do a 2-4-1 special! If I could sell the 2 other cars with enough money to make the 98' a great car, I would be pretty happy.
DALAZ_68
03-25-2009, 08:18 AM
first of all u dont NEED paint or the 6 piece kit, fucke that shit!, ur in debt and want out, sell what u dont need, which sounds to me would be the coupe and vert, youll get more for parting out the cars, than selling whole.
secondly, if my dumb ass can install my WB o2, so can you, its not hard. install ur WB, tune it, and drive happy...
the only reason i would see it necessary to have 2 cars would be if u lived in CA like i do...my hatch back (in my sig) is my project... and my coupe is my DD... its reliable, im not doing jack shit to it and some how un touched by 17yr old with FnF dreams...since here the motor in the hatch is illegal, i rather not risk driving it on streets anymore, i did for about a year, and pretty much got tired of all the close calls.

I'm not sure what there would be to "part out". Most parts in the cars aren't in good condition. I can't imagine getting more than 4-500 bucks off of parts on each car. I know I could put a $1000 on the vert and sell it to a bum on the side of the road since it does run and drive.
And maybe you don't understand how sick and tired I am of pulling crap on and off of these cars. I think I'd rather sell them outright then have to deal with all the BS from pulling and selling every little individual part. Then have to try and sell the shell (or just have it hauled off).
About having 2 cars. I wouldn't mind only having ONE car if it was a stock car that was in great shape. I live in a small little town with next to nobody and am hours away from just about everything. if my car were to seriously break down and I needed someone else to fix it, it'd be over an hour tow, etc.
I know I don't need the body kit and what not. :keke: I just have it and want to get it installed (since that would fix the busted rear bumper which is keeping me from closing the trunk. LOL). But also, I just feel embarrassed driving my cars. I'm not trying to be all baller and sh!t, but I'd love to have a clean looking car that doesn't look like it's going to fall apart going down the road.

That is looking like the plan actually. :bigok:
I've been calling around looking for a dyno place to see about getting a tune. But damn there is no one that will even touch a nissan. (losers) Otherwise, I'll be off to get an alignment this weekend after I replace a couple front end bushings since I ate through a pair of front tires in a couple thousand miles. Hopefully that will get me by for a while.

Hate to sound repetitive, but 3 projects = big no no.
I used to have several S-chassis just sitting around.
All being projects. All needed work.
I ended up selling them all off but one(my main project), then with the money I made from the others, I bought my daily S13 that needed absolutely nothing(other than routine maintenance).
Best decision I ever made.
I get to fiddle with the project, leaving it non-op for days at a time without worrying about having it ready for the next work day like I used to.

Sell the Kouki (w/o the turbo kit) and the vert. Use the vert money to buy a used KA24DE and put it into the coupe. keep the turbo kit until you have money to have it tuned properly for reliable dd. left over money to CC bills. IMO this is the best solution.
I learned the hard way i dont care what anyone else says, NEVER have more than 1 project car, especially when one is a 240.

This is exactly how I ended up with 3 project cars. *laugh* I bought the 92' Coupe to be my daily driver, which worked out great for the longest time. But then it blew up. So here I am! *shrugs*
I def. don't want to go without 2 cars for very long. I've always wanted a Crew Cab Frontier to tow my real project car (the 98 KA-t) with and being a homeowner, being able to tow lumber and other dirty nastiness around with would be nice. I might have to go a little more in debt to get a decent low mile vehicle. But I know I wouldn't regret it. We're going to see how well I can get the KA-t running and driving before we take any drastic steps like this though. It might be the best choice so I'm not stuck without a vehicle though.

As I said before, only have one real project. The Kouki. The coupe was my daily, and the vert was the girl's daily.
They became projects when they needed more work than what they were worth. I'm finding it very hard to find decent KA24DE motors. I've now purchased 3 motors that were all shit even though they looked great sitting in the engine bay.
And also, I have an Enthalpy tune for my setup. And I've got a SAFC2 also. Just not sure I trust myself tuning it myself using a wideband. And there isn't anyone that will commit to tuning a Nissan around here.

i just figured u would get the most for the kouki and that can help with your debt. sucks your having trouble finding a good motor. i see tons of guys from Florida on different 240sx forums/boards. either way if you post in a regional section, or find a 240 site for florida or the area you are in im sure you can find a good condition KA or someone who can help tune your kouki to how you want it.

There are a ton of 240 guys on here. The issue is, all KA's are just beat to hell with blown head gaskets, bad rings, knocking rods. I have yet to find a good KA under $700. And if I'm spending that much, I'll just spend the $1100 on a re-built motor from JIS.
trust me, whenever my 92' was running good. I questioned selling the kouki with the turbo kit since I really wanted to go RB25 anyways. But because of body damage, cheap parts (megan coils, ebay piping, etc) and the 98' being my first "DIY Project". Most things aren't done up to a lot of you guys' standards. So selling it and getting a decent amount wouldn't be worth it. I'd never find another Kouki for what I'll get for my half-assed, slightly beat one.
I was looking for a DD Zenki/kouki online and I am having trouble finding a decent mileage one under $5000. They've all been wrecked, or have like 150+k mileage on them.
Just a lot of dead ends.
What do you guys think about possibly trading my project for someone's daily driver? I'm sure there is someone out there that would want to trade a really nice S13 that doesn't need a thing for a semi-project Kouki... I mean, That would cure a lot of my problems (except money! but then again, the lottery is the only thing that will fix that!)

I just sold my Civic because sourcing parts was near impossible! I'd rather spend the money and buy a new KA for my coupe then owning another Honda. :cj:

LOL. I'm already in financial lock down. I don't buy anything that I don't need. I don't even buy sodas at the store or eat out. Ever. But, My interest rates are really low on my CC's. Like 5 and 6 percent. It's actually better than any loan I've ever gotten.
