View Full Version : Wtf?! Weird bank activity (and a rant)

Eh sorry. Had to rant somewhere, and where better than Zilvia OT?
Anyways, I just get my ass back from work.
Get on my PC, myspace it up a bit, zilvia it up a bit and decide to check my bank account.
I have a -250$ transaction fucking pending from FAMSA INC which is some furniture store in LA that I HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN TO OR HAVE DONE BUSINESS WITH!
This has me hella pissed off. Not sure whether I have some ID theft or whatever, but my cards have not left me at all. This transaction just popped up today!
Took me about 30 minutes until I found the right directory path on the automated Wamu phone to talk to an actual person. She gave me a number for claims and she said the only thing I can do is wait a bit til it goes through and hope it doesn't, but claims will be informed so I may have to contact them best time tomorrow.
My friend said that this happened to her parents too when Wamu/Chase got hacked into and took random numbers. I may have to get all new accounts and cards. Man, what a shitty day.
First my dad takes my car and causes about 200-300 dollars of damage when he takes it out randomly.
Work was fucking shitty all day.
And now I owe some company I've never been to 250$!
I even found the number of the company in LA and left them a message about wtf is going on. Tried to get in my most sturn voice too haha.:cops:
Anybody ever have shit like this happen to them and/or know what I can do?
Cliff notes:
-Get home from work
-Mysterious transaction for 250 from a place I've never heard of and on the day of work today.
-Shitty day
-Pissed

And this is why I have Wells Fargo. I had a similar thing happen. Edison charged my card for the electricity bill at my old apartment. I called the bank, told them what happened and put it on hold until they investigated. I was out over $200 at that moment. Not to mention the overdraft fees because I was still using my card and didn't know that that amount was taken out.
Anyways, 3 days later I was called back. Told everything was cleared. Money was reversed and the overdraft fees were reversed as well. No problems whatsoever.

Customer service at Wamu fucking blows.
I had something similar happen to me about two years ago.
$400 order at Nordstroms for a Coach bag I never bought.
I called in immediately, filed a claim, closed the account, spent several hours at the bank dealing with it, and in the end, they STILL didn't believe that I didn't do that order. Aka didn't want to refund me.
Talked to so many managers and gave them shit.
Finally said "fuck you and your stupid fucking bank" from being so pissed off and threatened to have my friends and family switch banks.
Suddenly, they refunded my money, apologized, and tried to bribe me with all sorts of shit.
Still changed to Wells Fargo and have loved it ever since.
Never dealing with Wamu ever again.

I hope all goes well too.
I'm in a quiet rage right now which I think is more scary than an exterior noticeable rage. I'm pissed off, but dear god if somebody like cuts me off i'll fucking jump out of my car and murder them.
haha, why couldn't there be a late night drift track around here? drift out my rage...i'm afraid video games may cause more rage....hmm...maybe smokem dah hookah
That 250 would of been going to clear corners and side markers haha. And/or my 5 lug conversion.
You know what, I think I will change. I already told them that I'm thinking about closing my accounts with them and leaving them if I don't get do justice and refunded back.

I've read numerous good customer service reports about Wells Fargo on this forum, and that's the only reason I've stayed with them as long as I joined the working force.
They do have the best customer service in banking all around.
Plus we have the no envelopes deposits thingy. WAMU doesn't have that (at least where I live)

Man I'd honestly hate to be a bank costumer service person. You are dealing with the most volatile substance in the world. Money.
Fuck with it and/or other people's money and they can easily go ballistic and I don't make as much money as I used to anymore. I've lost about 1/4-1/2 my paycheck at work.

get wamu to kill that credit card number and issue a new one while you fight this, if they haven't already.
and seriously consider checking your credit and issuing an ID theft alert. if you haven't used your free once a year credit check, now is a good time.

I had a former fellow Marine buy two plane tickets with my Bank of America debit card. Only took a few day's to get my money back ($500), I was really relieved lol. But the overdraft fee's are outrageous.

Its not the card guys, I work finance for sprint and we see this shit happening all the time. Basically people will give an account number to us to pay, it comes back no account found and they keep changing one or two digits until they get an account that works. So changing your card will not work, and theres really nothing to prevent this kinda shit, because while i work very hard at keeping people from paying sprint this way (ie getting accounts closed that we notice this trend before they get a working account), I have no doubt people are doing this on other accounts.
Ive come to the realization that people in general are pieces of shit.

Some punk decided to do a spending spree with my shit last year. I noticed funky transactions like $200 at wallmart in Victorville, $150 in Mission Viejo, ect. I called Bank of America and went through processes of weeding out the purchaces. Its annoying.

travis, call me if you want to switch to wells, i have a hook up there.

Update:
Well I called their fraud department and spoke to somebody for a bit.
Since the transaction is still pending. They can't do anything yet, I have to monitor and wait til it goes through, if it does.
If it does go through, then I'll call back and continue with the claim.
Even the guy that I was talking to thought FAMSA was kind of weird because some numbers or addresses didn't match. Go ahead, Google FAMSA INC, should be located in LA.
Guy made it seem that more than likely they'll give me the money back though.
Hope this all gets resolved soon and I'm changing all my account information and opening up new ones and getting new cards.

And Phil, what kind of hook up? How do you even get a hook up with a bank? lol

Update:
Just got back home, watched some TV and checked my bank account.
The 250$ that was charged to me has now disappeared and didn't go through. So I guess all is good.
Next day off though, I'm going to cancel all accounts and get new ones.

join a credit union
I have both wellsfargo and mission federal credit union.
The wells fargo in my area don't treat me nicely because I don't keep a lot of money in that bank. But I have a credit card through them and direct deposit. I also have an account at MFCU because they were willing to give me a loan for my second 240.

I do need a credit card though.
Used to get them all the time, then the economy with to crap and no more cards. =\
What is a credit union though? How do they differ from banks?
JayDee M Rolly

loan interest rates are better. easier to transfer money. others depending on which one.
the only cons are its hard to take out cash because you can only take it through credit unions, but ANY.

Bank of America has treated me pretty well. They automatically put a hold on my card and called me when some fishy transactions took place. Someone in Florida must have counterfeited a card with my info on it and started buying a bunch of groceries?? Anyway they called me up and instantly put a credit in my account for the full amount (something like $300). I had to wait a few days for a new bank card to come in the mail, but that was pretty much the only inconvenience.

Credit union, typically a smaller company and more local. Small company in one community can't afford to have bad customer service.

Update:
It happened again!
Direct TV charge for 127.82!
Got off the phone with the bank. Card is canceled, by April 5th they'll give me credit back until this is handled. I'll get a form in the mail and I gotta fill it out and turn it in best time or my dispute isn't valid.
