First, politics and religion are no reasons to divide a state into two states.

Second, h20. Norcal has it. Socal doesn't. One state can share its water throughout its constituents; two states would mean one has to give up its water to give to another. That's more trouble.

California is one state with a diverse population. If you don't like your area, move to a different one.

That is easy to solve. Desalination. If Cali-payed federal taxes stayed here the government could afford state owned water utilities and LA would have its own water. That is better for the whole state. More water in the valley means more crops means more money.
