Hey guys, I Have a set of Tanabe sustec pro SOC II that were on my current car when I bought it. There was a mean clunking coming from the rear coilovers becuase the previouse owner had used metal washers between the top hat rubber bushing and the nut.

So I took em off figuring he installed the top hats wrong or something. What I've come to figure out is that when the top hat is seated on the seat on the shaft there is roughly 1 1/2" of bare shaft before the bottom of the threads. Heres some pics to clarify.

The stock rubber bushing is not on in those pics as I misplaced it at the moment, but it is around 3/4" thick I think. This would leave another 3/4" of freespace before the bottom of the nut.

My question is, Why are my coilovers like this? lol. Are they possibly for a different application, or...? I cant really think of anything else that could cause this.

Would stacking 2 or more stock rubber bushings be safe? any other ideas on how I can fix these? Throw me any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.
