would an sr20det tranny bolt up to a ca18det? what are the differences (if they are at all similar?)

Nope they wouldn't fit together. I couldn't tell you the differences sorry :(

Well, they are the same transmission, but the bellhousing is different, so it's not going to bolt right up. If I remember right, though, someone said something about modifying the bellhousing to get it to fit or bolting up the correct bellhousing, I can't remember exactly.

The ratios are different, I like the ca's better.

Not sure but I would make the educated guess that with the bell housing from your engine the other tranny would bolt up.

I was wondering, I have found a couple CA motors with no trannies, but without trannies they are worthless, if the sr won't bolt up I don't have a "source" for ca trannies.

Where did you get this idea? Just wondering because everything I've read indicates that a JDM CA18DET car has the same 1st-4th gears as a KA or SR20DET. There were other CA gearsets though (the CA18DE and Euro CA18DET gears were different).

i have a ca18det with a hybrid ca18/sr20 tranny. it has a ca18 bell housing mated to a sr20 gear box. the sr20 has better gear ratios for a ca18. it keeps you in the power band slightly better. the ca18 gears are kinda doggy. and no they dont have the same gear ratios.

There a few options you can use for the ca18det motor. The cheapest way is to find a s12 200sx ca18et tranny, its the same tranny it all bolts up the same. I currently have one in my s13 with the ca18et motor, the tranny just has different gear ratios. You can use a ka tranny with the ca but you have to put a ca bellhousing otherwise it is all the same also. I just picked up a ca18det tranny off ebay for very cheap, it all depends on what you have to spend, if you want the best tranny then go ca18det but if your on a budget the other trannys do just fine.

Anyone know if the CA axle is the same as the (S13) SR axle? how about differentials from an '89 CA18DET vs. a '98 SR20DET?
Thanks! (And sorry for reviving the dead!)

axle on gearbox side is the same, for the rest, no (essentially the length)

All depends on what diff is in the car. Early S13s and some later NA S13s have the smaller R180 diffs. If you have an R180 diff, diff is different and the subframe is different too compared to a regular R200. You can't just drop the R180 diff and slap an R200 diff because it wont bolt up to subframe. You'd have to swap out the subframe too.

Thanks guys.
Am I correct to assume that since there are no bolts on the housing surrounding my diff's output shafts, I have an R200?

The next question is, with this diff housing and these axles (6 bolt [3-pairs]), what LSD will fit?

Cheers!

Thanks for all the responses. What about driveshaft? Can I bolt a SR motor & tranny up to a CA18DET car's driveshaft and diff?

essentially my issue is:
I have an RS13 (1989) but the previous owner swapped in a kouki S13 SR20DET. I don't know what tranny I have, what brakes I have, or what rear end I have, but I need to know all of these things (obviously) to do the clutch & flywheel, brakes, and LSD upgrades that I want to do!

Thanks again!

Drive shaft length is the same so what ever drive shaft you have should bolt right up.
