So, I just swapped an S15 turbo onto my S13 engine, and it promptly lost the seals in the exhaust side. Lots of blue smoke - we checked compression, oil and coolant levels, etc, and yeah, it's the turbo not the engine.

SO, I must take the car apart again. The first time around I drained oil and coolant. This time I got to wondering - do you really have to drain the oil to remove the turbo, or are the oil feed and return ports on the S13 SR above the level of oil in the pan? Obviously I'll need to drain the coolant but I'm wondering if I can save myself a bit of trouble.

Any advice appreciated.

I just changed my T25 out for a disco potato and just drained the coolant the oil port from the engine leaked out a little but not much at all it was probably just what was in the lines themselves.

You dont have to drain the oil and you dont have to drain ALL of the coolant. You pop the turbo waterline and let whatever drain out thru there. It wont be all the coolant. Oil, dont worry about it...
