View Full Version : Rotors for R33 GTST calipers

I hope this hasn't been posted already.
So I bought some R33 GTST calipers a while ago and have been trying to find rotors for them.
The only places that seem to have them are in Australia.
The dealer would have to special order them and they are expensive.
I know Z32 rotors don't work as they are not big enough.
The R33 rotors are 296mmx30mm
The Z32 rotors are 280mmx30mm
After a lot of research I found out that 97-01 Q45 rotors are 296x28mm.
I also discovered that the R33 and Q45 rotors both have the same 54mm height.
I went over to Autozone and got the Q45 rotors for $34 each and they bolted right up!
I don't know if the 2mm difference will be a problem. Maybe?
Here are some pics:

Pads line up perfect to the beveled edge of the rotor

Hope this will help people out and save them some money.

For real. lol
The difference in rotor thickness would be the same as if you'd just used the brakes together for a while, and they were worn 1mm on each side. I don't think it's really a big deal.

Very Nice!
thx for the heads up!

Wow, I wish I had known this when I had my r33 calipers. It took me forever to find rotors. I ended up buying used oem nissan r33 rotors from a private seller. I can't remember how much I paid but it sucks because I actually upgraded from q45 to the r33 calipers.
Nice job, this will help out a lot of people. The 2mm difference may or may not affect the pad. To be on the safe side, just change pads before it gets down to the minumum thickness. This will prevent the caliper piston from coming out too far.

Or, you could just get some 1mm spacers behind the pads and you're good to go. you dont want the caliper piston to protrude out too much when the pads are wearing down.

i wouldnt risk adding a spacer to my breaking system.

i'm talking about the shims behind the brake pads. The vibration dampeners.

yea i think i would find a way to get a closer fit between the pad and rotor... it would be perfect.
wish i would have know this i've dropped well over 250 bucks to 2 diff sets of rotors ... one set i bought from a guy in Australia couple months ago and i just got them. And my buddy randomly had some skyline rotor laying around that i got off him.... and he still has one more set

Good luck with those rotors! I hope they are better then the cheap rotors that I bought for my WRX... Went thru 2 sets of front rotors in 5 months.

Another possibility is 93 - 99 Toyota supra non-turbo rotors, from what i have researched they are 296mmx32mm,
Would the 2mm make a difference? no idea,

Arent J30 rotors the same as Q45? I think they have the same part #.

j30 rotors are 280mmx30mm I believe.

The 90-96 Q45 rotors are the same as J30's.
280mm x 28mm.
Calipers are the same too.

good to know. less rotating mass to slow down when breaking. once the pads wear out, i would be concerned with the additional protrusion of the pistions, but i still wouldn't insert additional shims. just keep an eye on the pads. question. is it 2mm shorter on one side in the caliper? or an even 1mm on each side of the rotor?

where did you buy pads for the r33 calipers?

1mm on each side.

You can use Z32 pads.
