windshield glass has little dots!!! help

hey guys

on my s14... the front windshield has these little dots when i;m driving and the sun is directly towards me... it's not because it's dirty i already cleaned it very well.

it's just these little specks that are just all over my front windshield it looks like ... chips or something, but when i get up close and look at it, i don't see any chips. so, they might be super tiny little chips that i can't see?

is there like a way to refinish the window to make it ultra sleek and smooth again? it's kinda annoying now since i drive towards the sun home and back. before i'd go the opposite directions so i didn't really care.

i'm not sure if i'm explaining it right, i guess another way to put it is the sun is glaring at me now and then i can see the little specks all over.

That happened to me. I was driving through the desert during a bad sandstorm, and the wind pretty much sandblasted my windshield.

ohhh, yeah, mine probably isn't as bad. it's just taht i used to drive to san bernardino and then these huge trucks with like piles of rocks and crap.... would like fly at my window it never made any real big chips or anything. but yeah i guess that's waht happend and the fontana area has these little weird dust tornados lol.... and so yeah

any idea on how to fix it? or a way to refinish? besides buying a new one =D

clean it with a razor blade and alcohol, just to make sure its not something on the surface. If that doesnt work you can try buffing it with a high speed buffer and some gritty compound, then use wax and buff it again.

Might work might not, I had a customer who's windshield had hard water damage, actually IN the glass, but this method worked i guess it removed a ultra-thin layer of glass? who knows i just know when it was done it looked brand new

Replacing it is far easier and not that expensive. $200 maximum for most places, and the result is amazing. Every time I've ever painted a car I get a new windshield too, it makes the car look that much better and you can literally see everything through it.

ohhhh =D i guess compound is the way to go! the glass for the most part is in good condition not enough to warrant me to wanna replace it not just for this at least =(.

what's gritty compound? will it say gritty compound on the bottle or something? sorry for the noob as hell q's!

dont use "gritty" compound or any compound for that matter. youll make it worse i promise

you can buy glass refinishing kits but i wouldnt waste the time or money since its very expensive and very time consuming.

its glass... not paint... a little grit will only help, and thats why you do it in steps. Trust me i know from first hand experience on a 30k nissan car.

glass is extremely hard. a lot harder than any type of single stage or clearcoat finish. trust me i know too. I had to refinish a rear window on a 58 cadillac valued over 100k.... and it was a pain in the ass

well, that's polish right? wouldn't i need soemthing to remove those lil chips first b4 i polish? or i'd imagine i'd have some super sparky chips which would prolly be worse. just my guess not sure if it's a right one.

Yeah.. it's a polish it seems.

I'm not really understanding what they look like, but if it is scratches on the surface, you need to clean it up first and then polish. If it's beneath the surface, I'm not sure what to do besides replace the windshield because there is a layer of plastic in between the glass. IDK?

i do autoglass here in va and compound wont help u much and when people ask me how to get rid of it i always recommend just replacing it, it will save u alot of time and hassle with trying to buff it out, and also when buffing it u may distort the glass also.

you are absolutely correct. glass repair requires special high speed tools w/ water cooling, check around there are glass shops that do graffiti repair and use a very expensive machine to do the job. if they can remove scribing from store windows, then they can repair your windshield. i will be doing this to my rear hatch which i purchased used and had some light scratches and pitting, along with the side-windows. all the other glass on my car is new, so i want them to match.

you cannot sand and polish glass by hand, you'de be an idiot to try. it may work on soft materials like acrylic, but absolutely wont on glass.

tell your insurance company that damage to your windshield is causing visibility problems. they'll replace it for free. it's entirely true and legit. that's how those free rock chip repair stands work. better they spend a few bucks on a windshield than thousands for car repairs and medical bills.
