Well I got in depth into tearing down the GTiR motor today and found a whole bunch of things different... Some you will know, some you might not know.
The rods are thicker
The pistons are identical
The crank is the same except for the flywheel bolt diameter
Head Studs are 1mm larger in diameter
The head is thicker from the deck of the head to the bolt seat
Main studs seem to be identical
Girdle seems to be identical
Oil pump gear is MUCH larger
There is a drain back from the oil pump to the front main seal
Intake Valves are stainless
Exhaust valves are stainless (so is the normal DET)
GTiR Exhaust Valves are flat faced
Combustion Chamber is more open than DET
Dual Valve springs
Different length valves
Solid Lifters
Larger Intake ports with less of a divide in the center
I might be missing a bit but here is some more info..
The front cover is almost identical to a RWD Sr20. Only difference is where the front cover bolts to the head.
Head will work with the following modifications
Plug rear oil drain back in the block
Install -8 or -10 AN fitting on head
Install same size fitting on block
Run a external Oil Drain Back
Use GTiR Front cover
This will only work if you are not planing to use the CAS (a la Electromotive crank fire ignition)
I will post some questions in another thread.
BTW I am going to use the GTiR head for a few reasons.
It allows me to use the GTiR Front cover with larger strongr oil pump.
Intake ports flow almost 30cfm More out of the box (flowed on the bench tonight to see)
Solid Lifters
Something different to do
Just though I would pass the info along..
