View Full Version : Which B.O.V. reigns Supreme?

Currently i'm in the process of getting parts for my sr20det swap. When sourcing for parts one question comes to mind, which blow off valve reign s supreme?

For my current set-up i plan to run out 250wph or so. Looking around on youtube i noticed that the hks ssqv sounds the best. I noticed that there are the older and newer versions of this one, which one is best?

As far as looking for one, what specs should i be looking for?

Another question is the placement of the BOVs---after intake, between the intercooler to turbo( i don't know the correct names, cold pipe hot pipe?ect). Where should it be put?

Btw; can someone school me on recirculating part of blow offs? Like a easy to understand way. I looked at some recirc. like this one for the hks HKS USA SSQV Recirculation Fitting (http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=798) but i'm not really sure how i would connect it.

Like for a bov i undestand you need a vacuum line and blow off flange and thats it right? but then with that it might stumble in between shifts? or bad idle? and thats where the recirc. part comes in.

Pfffft...HKS? Greddy Type-R BOV FTW!!!

If youre only shooting 250whp and recircing it, fuck it and stay with stock BOV.

The recirc fitting goes in place of the fin on the hks bov.

honestly, you arent pushing a shitload of horsepower or boost so you can basically run any outta the box bov [hks, greddy, blitz, etc]
all of them pretty much do the same thing.

with the new hks bov you wont need to recirc because its self adjusting, but its always better.

edit: LOL Adrian.

I have the old HKS Race one that looks like the Greddy Type R and I love it!

No, high pitched noise or anything, it just dumps. Pretty quiet IMO.

I used to have the Greddy Type S, it was ok but let me down from videos I had heard on a bad camera evidentally.

This is going to all be personal preference man.

if you adjust it tight enough it shouldnt stumble or have a bad idle....just dont do it too tight as to where it wont open

No BOV is ftw... but if you do run one get one that recircs so we dont have to have another topic on why my SR stalls at a redlight or hesitates blah blah blah....

this should clear up about the easiest location of BOV along with how to recirc it

You have four ways to go.

Sard r2d2 (no complaints that I remember)

Hks ssqv adjustable version. (rubber diaphragm goes bad after not too long rendering the bov pretty useless).

No bov at all (throttle response!)

Tial (too big)

I've used each of these ways.

Just dont get greddy type rs because it will start leaking on you in a couple of months and the only way is to recirculate it or you will stall and idle rough all the time.

I use a Forge. Works good. Install and go, no adjusting necessary.

I'll never understand why people buy a BOV based on the sound it makes. Proper function > coolness factor, if any. Same argument for not recirculating it on a MAF-based car...

lol don't stick with the stock one, mine just got fuggin stuck today. i was waiting for it to happen.

just take the BOV off and block off the bungs like zar said.

250whp goal... I'm pretty sure compressor surge isn't going to affect the setup.

Pretty sure compressor surge is a joke and a half but lets not turn this into that type of thread...

Because 99% of repituable companies BOV's are among the same quality. IMO Greddy, HKS, Blitz, Sard etc are all totally interchangable. The only real reason to pick one over another is because of the coolness factor :blah: Or people can man up and stop running a super cool sounding BOV on their stock SR

Too big in what way? Physically too big? (gets in the way, clutters things, etc...)

Or too big to function properly on our cars?

when i get one for my swap, i want the most obnoxious loud one. I have heard the r2d2 is the way to go for that, what other ones are really loud?

R2D2 is good if you want the loud air brake sound. Tial is close too.

TurboXS RFL if you want the rice whistle.
