I was just wondering with so many people that own S-chassis', have anyone here ever bought a JDM crate engine ie Tomei, Top Secret, HKS and ect. I know it's cheaper to build your own but I'm not trying to get into that. Just want to knoow has anyone bought one, installed it, and driving around with it. If so, what's the craftsmanship like and build quality?

didn't Tomei make the engine that JIC ran in their s15? they don't dick around with what they build, everything has the builders name so that if anything goes wrong they know who fucked up. Other than that I think its way too expensive to be practical. If I had that type of money I'd just buy an LS7
on a side note, except for the professional companies (theres a few I've seen with Tomei engines, can't remember them off the top of my head) I've never seen a crate engine that wasnt a Chevy or Ford product (dodge also but I cant imagine a reason to buy anything from them)
Tomei engines are a good deal, if you brought all Tomei parts and had them installed and the work done I doubt the price would be that different. Just depends if you have all the money to drop at one time. I was thinking of going with the Tomei SR but with the basic pacakage you have to by all the acc with it plus the mani ,turbo etc. If your starting out I think that is the show stopper. If you already have an SR or have deep pockets I opt to go with that if your looking for a serious build. For the average person I don't think it's a good idea. Its seems for American customers no engine deposit is required when I was in Japan a while ago the prices were set based on given them your old usable engine.
