I was thinking of selling my SR set up and going to a stock KA due to how many reff tickets i have had.
i want something legal but... i want to know if the KA is to under powered for tracks like adams kart track or the balcony?
any help would be great
thanks

KA is just fine.
A few people have relatively stock KAs (no turbo at least) and do fine at the 626 events or else where.
I heard it requires more clutch kicking, but whatever. It's all driver.
My friend Henry (gold colored S14 with black primered looking body kit) has a stock KA, welded diff, clutch and a lightweight flywheel. He has no problems. He's on the latest 626 video or I think the 626 opener.

anyone do it at the kart track in riverside?
im going to feel lame though cuz now that my car is actualy not ugly and painted with a kit im going to have stock KA supposed to built SR =/
^Lol the man said so. He only rocks stock KA's haha. I wonder for how much longer tho:ddog:

I think you barely knock it into 2nd gear at the kart track. I've never been there, perhaps I am wrong.
Driving around a 240 in california with a SR in it is just stupid (in my opinion).
Also, what's wrong with having a nice car and a stock KA?
Sure, it would be COOL to have a nice SR20 in there, but really... what's the point these days?

i already have it so its just a bitch to down grade u know?

I would rather drift ka than sr.
Especially if your learning, drift with a ka and welded and learn from there.

That DOES suck to go from a SR to a KA.

Oh, KA is fine.
I just think it might be a bummer.... I guess let's say you had a HOT girlfriend and then she dumped you. Then you get a new girlfriend and she is just plain. She still works and all that, but she is plain.

theres a bunch of threads in which u can push up to 200 HP N/A but doing all that will cost more then just simply slappin on a turbo in which u can get 250. its up to u, like u living in CA i decide to rock KA instead of getting harassed by cops
Brian
03-13-2009, 12:03 PM
I've heard about the VQ thing...
Not really interested.
If you NEED the power, go for it.
If you can figure out how to drive the KA fine, go for it. It will be cheaper.

Stick with the KA, it will be fine, esp at balcony.

Downgrading is gonna suck, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Oh there was a sr5 corolla linking adams track, so if you can't do it with a ka, its your skillz.

240cracker your car looks nice but if you have SR then it just going to sit in garage and waiting for event. If you have KA then you can go anywhere you want.
Sure KA is underpower but in my set up I perfert handling/griping.

yeah, its good to learn with a KA, you'll have less rooms for error when you drift. You'll love it. Just put a brick on your gas pedal and have fun!

I was just in the adam kart track last night with my stock KA with 205/50/15 tires on the back. It feels ok, just need to keep the speed up to stay in powerband, and lots of clutch kicking.
KA feels much better in HTM imo

Which SR did you have, and is it in a S14?
I'm serious about swapping my KA + cash for your SR, if its a S14 SR.

trust me its good to drive a stock ka...i just traded my hatch with an stock sr for a clean 93 kade hatch decent miles. i think best deal ever...no hassle from cops...i got stopped just the other day by a chp for my exhaust made me pop my hood...i told the officer w/ pleasure!!! lol let me go my way.
yeah its underpower...i miss the sr!! but hey you can always turbo that ka.
like i think brian said ---"Driving around a 240 in california with a SR in it is just stupid (in my opinion).
Also, what's wrong with having a nice car and a stock KA?"
its true and i do agree with that!

im gonna be honest with you, if ur used to drifting SR, getting used to drifting a KA is gonna piss you off for a little while.. i drift at adams, i run a stock KAde i link it no problem,(well not at first) i just need to clutch kick alot and my lines are a little more shallow and slower then the Turbo guys, linking N/A at adams is gonna require a near perfect line, because power wont be there to save you...but yeah its true, its all driver.

03-13-2009, 06:07 PM
any of you guys think about na sr20de,s13 or s14de..good motors better power band than ka,and rev hijgher out of the box.i have been pulled over in my s13 and my sr20de looks rock stock..cops dont care..also on the smog point i had a ka24e for 5 years i had hard time passin smog .now everytime i get hit with test onlys because the ref is tellin me all 240sx with rubber diaphram egr will have to do test onlys..evertime ..so f&^%it i went non turbo sr20 with stock exhaust it put down 136 to wheels with stock exhaust and no cat.

No, I keep the KA to be a LEGAL driver.
No need to break the law with an illegal engine. I'd rather not.

I've been inside some cars with the KA dual cam and they are not that bad. They are decent stock wise. I feel the same way as you OP im also scared of being reffed and hate paying the smog fee's but at the same time i love the powerband of the SR20. Just drive normally and dont catch too much attention

KA is dope. like what they say from the previous post, FULL throttle.
Less power MORE skills IMO lol
ericcastro
03-14-2009, 01:53 AM
KA works plenty fine until your in a tandem comp against RB's and 1J's.
But for balcony and even HTM its plenty.
You will actually learn to drift WAY better.
You will get used to clutch kicking, ebrake, weight transfers, perfect lines.
KA's take much more skill than a car that you just push a little more on the pedal when you need to adjust.
So when you are on the big track, and that SR isnt holding the big lines, you will have all the skills from your KA days.
Or at least thats what I tell myself ;)

the longer you drive your ka, the more power it has lol, either that or your tolerance for slow just goes up.

Sadly, its the exact opposite for me. :o
Though, I've discovered that if you shift at 3k rpms consistently and never go above 70 on the highway for like a week straight, the first time you lay into the throttle after that week feels AMAZING. Its like "HOLY FUCK, THIS CAR IS FAST!" And then you slap yourself as a Prius goes flying past you. :squintd:
