Does anyone know what the benifits of short term health insurance is? anyone ever use it? ive been looking around for a health plans, found some good ones and might go towards a student based health coverage. I saw the short term one for 30 days. How fast do these go in effect for example: i buy today and two days later i break a leg or get into a car accident? ive thinking of it but dont know if i should do it just to get check ups or untill i get a job with full benifits.

this really isn't the place to be asking the question. The idea behind it is if you have a health condition the short term insurance would be better if you're going to cash out (die) sometime soon. If you're in your 20's-30's you can contribute towards your short term policy, the trick with it is that once the term is up, you get an option to renew it with the balance accrued but obviously you're going to get a physical and a rate jump and maybe renew it for a shorter term.

Did I lose you yet?

If you don't renew then they keep your money as far as I remember, and in the end it really is a waste. But the payout is better on it or something! I think you have to have the policy for a year or two before it pays out and there is a suicide clause on all contracts.

the long term doesn't have as high of a return as a short term life insurance policy. Again I would consult a couple of places, unless you have kids you want to leave money for when you die. Save your money.

yeah i'm gonna consult with some insurance companies. I just want it for short term just in case i get a job with full benifits then its a waste. Just wanna be secured if something happens in between so i wont be screwed over in bills and debt like if i injured myself or if i get a bad illness/disease..maybe even shot/stabbed from bad luck. Anything can happen. Seems tricky but i rather be insured just in case and lose a couple hundreds than tens of thousands.

so basically i have to renew and pay them more after the physical to see if i have an illness or else i'll get stuck with the charges? I can get a discounted student health insurance and pretty resonable and i can do it annually and bi-annualy.
