I was looking at a thread on a UK forum where the guy removed rust from various components of his S14 using a gel like solution. I tired to search for where I can buy it and worse case I'm making a call to the UK :keke: http://www.bilthamber.com/deoxgelbuy.php

Here are some pics of the solution he used and the end result...

I'm pretty much trying to do the same thing but I don't know what is an alternative solution here in the states.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

wow that's pretty neat. I could use some of that.
Isn't that similar to what Naval Jelly does?

lol yes, it's ridiculously clean

Yes, I know they ship...but it won't be cheap considering it's hazmat material. I also I don't want to make the call to UK unless I can't find an alternative stateside.

Man...even finding that Naval Jelly is a hassle :/

That naval jelly doesnt do shit! It etches the surface, and stains the metal.

You will then have to follow with a wirewheel to clean off the white residue.

Again, ive used 2 bottles of that naval jelly and it didnt remove jack shit, ive even set some bolts in a cup full of that for hours, and it was the same thing as putting them in a bucket full of cascade and water.

Maybe...the going currency rate is not too kind for us in the U.S. though. :ughd:

I'll get a phone card and make a call to them next week.

if its that bad...

take it to your nearest restoration shop and have it sandblasted/beadblasted or acid dipped. that would save a lot of time and mess

worst case get some rust converter, automotive paint supply stores usually carry it. Its a spray on/ brush on liquid that converts rust to black oxide primer.

If the UK guy posted that those last two pics back to back, than that's a little deceiving.

There's no way in hell a gel type remover will just wash off and give off that bling bling appearance right afterwords. You have some heavy scrubbin to do with a steel wool pad afterwards like Bigsyke said.

Check out this guys review:
Bilt Hamber Deox Gel (work in progress) - Detailing World (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=57228)

Gel-types rust removers are usually for light rust damage.

Do what all the hotrodders do, get it mediablasted.

^^ I think I got my naval jelly from walmart or autozone, i used some on my roll cage that had been sitting. It worked really well i still had to use some sand paper/ wire wheel, but thats understood.
