who makes a good set of component speakers, that sound great for the money. and where would one buy these fantastic speakers besides Crutchfield. I'm thinking Polk or Infinity 6.5" + 1" tweeter.

You know I only responded so that you wouldn't feel lonely and think we forgot you, but I really have no idea about audio, I'm not too much of a stereo person. I need to study up on it. But yeah, I'm sorry but I really don't know who you should get and what the prices are. I know that Polk seems really popular and expensive. That's all...

any component can sound right as long as its powered correctly, good brands are like ...... pioneer audiobahn, rockford fosgate, mtx, polk, infinity, cerwin vega, ID, and theres many many more. E-Bay is a great place to get them.

ManS..i was a audio freak b4 i got into "making a car go faster" and i still am....not all speakers are created equal...you want good quality sound the Infinity are good...but the best Components system (my opinion)are MB Quarts...thet are WAY PRICEY but you will not be DISSAPOINTED!!!! i'd tried most (not all) of all the brand there is and MB Quart is the BEST!!!....polk, sony, and them other ones aren't just up to it yet...i have personal choices when it comes to a full system setup...like my system in my 240 now i mix and match...because see i like Rockford Fosfgate's sub but hey i hate there components and decks...some company are just better off with what they first made...

well.. you didnt specify enough information..  like.. is this going to be run off the stock system?.. off an amp?.. stuff like that.. theres a big difference between stuff that is made just for oem replacement and full out systems yah know?..  well..  if you want something cheap.. i always see the soundstream exact components on ebay for hella cheap..
and they sound pretty #### nice..  i personally have the cdt audio High definition series speakers and i LOVE them..  but take a listen to everything..  because im very picky about high pitched speakers such as the MB quarts..  they sound nice and all.. but i couldnt really listen to them very long before my ears will go out..

Indeed, Polk is a very popular brand, but they literally SUCK!
You only buy the brand name, they forgot to include good quality with their car audio products. Believe me, I sold car stereo for 4 years and no brand had more horror stories than Polk, as a matter of fact my best friend at the time went through 4 pairs of the Polk Db+ subs in 10 days, no kidding (of course, we didn't pay for these since we both worked at circuit city)...  but it wasn't till we switched to JBL (yeah, believe it or not JBL and actually rated lower RMS than the polks) that they lasted, although he fried 'em after 2 years.

If you want affordable but good speakers go with Pioneer or Infinity.
If you want all out expensive and good stuff, go with either Boston Acoustics or JL Audio.

How much do you want to spend?  I dropped $300 on my components.  I've got Boston Acustics rally 620.  they sound great, but right now they are so underpowered it's frustrating.  I only have the 60 watts from my Alpine deck pushing them.  They can handle alot and I've got a three year warrenty on them so I don't need to worry about blowing them for now.

would it make more sense to get a 6.5" 3-way set of speakers since i listen to metal? would the midrange speaker make the music sound more clear or would a set of $140 components do the same, compared to $140 coaxials

If your willing to spend the money, MB Quart PSC 216's sound awsome in there. Thats what I had and I loved them. I got a good deal on them on ebay, yoiu should try to keep an eye out for them up there.

james go with components. the best reasoning is that u can position the tweeter wherever u want and the crossover is set at the ideal crossover rates on the factroy crossoverz.

i think i'll be getting either MB Quartz or Macintosh components when i get my trunk deadened.

i got boston 6.5's now and they're good but they are a feww years old and startin to fudge out.  got infinity 4x6 up front and they are pretty good but 4x6's aint made for pushin base.

dont touch any company that makes televisions or that poo, they just got into the car audio game for wuick loot.

stay away from pioneer, they suck. sony too, jvc, stc

the best companies are teh ones that only make car audio or just audio in general
cerwin vega, macintosh, boston acoustic, JL, MB Quartz, fosgate, CLARION is great stuff, alpine ect.

word up benns13....

i'm no wire head and wouldn't trust myself with any install really, but i know i would not buy sony speakers ever unless they were #### near free.

stay away from electronic stores, they mostly sell generic poo.

go to car audio outlets, they are the ones that know whats up.

i work at a pawn shop, and i sold a genexxa eq today, it was real poo.

sold it to an asian dude with a crazy 2001 mustang gt, with a body kit, bbs rims, this and that,  auto tranny, and a sony explod deck hahahahhaha

my girl friend has the same deck, but she bought it hot for 125, and had the install included.

mustangs and sony car audio go well together for some reason....

I've got a set of Infinity Kappa 6.5" components up front, Kappa 4x6 plates in the back. Sounds pretty good, though they're only running off of the 25 watts RMS coming from my deck. They take up to 100 watts (6.5), and 60 watts (4x6) if I remember correctly. I'll look into a four channel amp someday. I do gotta say the Infinity's are a pretty #### good speaker in my limited experience. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

so u think it is best to get compenent system and wire the tweeters in with the stock crossovers? or the new crossovers?.. i'm confused.. my speakers are ratling something furious and i need new ones bad.  I want to keep the combined total (all 4 speakers) under 300,, preferable a lil cheaper than that..   i have an s14 (6.5's all the way around correct?)  and am looking for a headunit as well, want to spend around 250 for that.  Any specific suggestions are welcome! thanks.
