No. Use the search though. I'm sure this has been covered many times. Its okay, since it seems you're new, but search for it, you'll find more about the timing chain.

Yeah the 240 is notorious for timing chain problems. If it is a 91-94 S13 you might want to try removing the 2 upper guides first and see if that fixes your ticking sound (I need to do this myself). Basically the guides are not needed and Nissan released something stating that. If that doesn't clear the problem up then it's probably time to start looking into timing chain replacement(check out courtesy nissan's website for kits).
Oh yea about your actual question:p . . . if the car is still running it shouldn't cause power loss or oveheating. When the chain finally goes, it goes all at once (besides the preceding ticking).

Mine also has a timing chain noise. I removed the chain guide but still ticking. Replacing the chain cost a lot so I just leave it as is.

Mine was rattling, so I pulled the top guide. A year later it was rattling again. Now it's not.
Here's how to fix it (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22368&highlight=Timing+chain)
