I've never taken out any type of loan before, but there is a good deal I have stumbled upon and was wondering if anyone has experience with taking out a small loan for about 2-3k?

I don't know what my credit score is, but I have been paying off my credit card every month in full ever since I got it which is about a year now, I also opened another credit card which they gave me 2500 credit limit along with my student credit card which they upped the credit limit by 1200. My job is pretty stable till June, so I should be able to pay it off no problem.

So someone school me on small personal loans, can I just go to the bank and ask for one? Anyone that has experience please post.

Thanks

Credit union would be ideal.

On the whole, it will be kind of difficult to get a loan for anything in these times, but your best best is almost always with a credit union.

and you have to be a member of a credit union

most credit union memberships require being part of some type of organization

Not really, the credit unions I was a part of just required you to either live, work, or go to school in the area that they were located.

Most places have a minimum amount they will write a loan for. Also is this going to be secured or unsecured? Are you going to put up some sort of collateral? Such as a car title that is in your name, property, or a home? Unfortunately this is part of the problem right now, even after the bailout most banking establishments are still not loaning money, ESPECIALLY unsecured personal loans. You'll have to have a great credit score (which is sounds like you're well on your way) and like said above, it wouldn't hurt to deal with a credit union or a smaller local bank that MAYBE didn't get caught with its pants down in the housing crash.

It is true you have to meet a requirement, but, ones such as SD county credit union their requirements are that you live withing SD or Riverside county. Just depends on their terms.

And to OP...as stated, with the times and economy the way it is...personal loans will be hard to come by.
