I certainly think it was pretty offensive what McD's did, even if the said woman over-reacted and handled this situation in a bad way.

How hard is it to check if you have an item in stock, before you take your customer's $$$ ? Then you refuse to give back the customer their money and demand they order something else?! It's not like most of the McD's menu is edible anyhow. it's bullshit policies like this (and/or just really offensive customer service) that are bound to stir up controversy one way or another.

McD's was lucky in this case that their customer retaliated in a poor way. only damage done might be poor publicity. it's not unthinkable that someone else in the ghetto might shoot the cashier/manager, and/or lawsuits.

Both sides are clearly in the wrong, but one has far more to lose than the other.

on other hand, I can agree with some of the other posters.McDonald's policy of not giving money back if they do not have the product and offering credit towards another item, is not the most consumer friendly. Though there are other business's out there that have the same policy. I don't know, the policy is perfectly legal. As far as ethics go its a grey area. As far as honor goes and doing the right thing? Its not the best. Though hey since when has a business thought about every person?

A lot of business's are run by bean counters aka accountants. People who do not give a fuck about people and only care about the bottom line cash flow and whether or not the company is in the black.
