The time has come to replace the worn out HAWK pads I have up front. I am currently running Z32 30MM calipers, stainless lines, and powerslot frozen rotors. The car sees a fair amount of daily driving and about 5-7 drift events/year and a couple auto-x events. I was really happy with the Hawk HPS pads up front, but now I am looking for something a little more aggressive. I would like to keep dust and noise down to a minimum, but don't want to sacrifice performance because of a little mess.
I was looking into the porterfield R4-S. Just wondering if anyone has any direct experience with them, and what kind of driving they do. I am open to all other suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

Anything more aggressive is going to be noisy and dusty. Sounds like you should stay with your Hawk HPS

Get the r4-s. They rock like crazy. I have em on my car and they are absolutely bitchin both on the street and at the track. You should replace your rear pads too though, I always run matched sets of pads. It's only $80 or so extra so why not? HPS's are pretty mediocre BTW.

If I was going to replace the rears I was planning on running a set of Project MU d1 pads, thoughts?

Matching front and rear makes warm up times/progressive rates match up with most pads - I think it's a good idea.
I've never run the Project Mu stuff, but the Axxis Ultimates I've run front (z32) and back (stock s14, with Z31 MC) are juuust aggressive enough for my taste - cold performance is mediocre, but they warm up quick - when they're warm you can put your foot in it and lock 'em up (235/40 Dunlop Z1s) coming down from 100+ to "freeway speed", while still being able to modulate well enough to not be scared of the progressive bite causing you to skid in an emergency situation.
Oh, did I mention I got fronts and backs for <$60? They're dusty, but not as dusty as stock (the worst) and not noisy (which I kinda miss, come to think of it).
If you have the dough, R4-S has a great rep, whereas the lower end Hawks have a really shitty rep with the racing world.

You'll have rear biased braking as the rear bite will be harder than the front depending on what pad you have in the front.

it never even crossed my mind to match pads F/R. You learn something new everyday. I did find the R4-S through FRsport and suprisingly they are priced pretty well.
As for break in time, I would assume the porterfields are just like all other pads.
