So, midterms are here and, as always, I dicked around all semester and now have to cram my ass off.
Right now I'm jacked up on a cocktail of Adderal, Camels and Mountain Dew.
Just wondering what my fellow Zilvians do/did to help them study durring those all-nighters.

Pretty much nothing works for me.
I'm pretty bad about studying in advance...
Maybe you can try replacing camel's and mountain dew with american spirits and red bull haha

i'm "studying" for a midterm right now too. i don't understand why people find it so hard to study. i always study with my computer and/or tv on. i just alternate between studying and computer/tv. it's like you're rewarding yourself hahaha

i suck at studying and doing homework..my usual tactic is procrastinate till the night before said homework/test, then panic for an hour or two. then i go to bed early, and get up early to do the homework/studying and try to get done what i need to before class when i am not tired as fuck. and my add meds help too....

you just have to cut yourself off from distractions.
as another poster mentioned, go to the library.
I'd just like to add that you should sit somewhere facing the wall,
not at the library entrance where you'll be oogling chicks.
Studying at home is more difficult.
I try to set up a fold-up table and chair in the bathroom in there.
block off any windows you might have, and hide the clock.
lock yourself inside until you are done.
power-naps might also work for you.
basically you doze off for 1-2 hrs, and then wake up.
You don't go into deep sleep until 3-4 hrs, so you will wake up refreshed and not groggy.
back when I went to ucsd, I would often cram a lot.
I managed to get by sleeping 6 hrs within 5 days of exams.
With food & stimulants, make sure to have adequate supply of sugar and caffeine.
When eating, have light quick meals.
heavy meals make you sleepy and feel lazy.
For coffee, starbucks double-shots worked best for me.
It would keep me up without upsetting my stomach.
Home-made authentic chai with a ton of black tea is great too, but it takes a while to prepare.

Things that work for me is not to study.
-put your phone on silent
-turn the TV off
-study when you're alert
-study boring/hard subjects first
-take 10 minute breaks every hour and switch subjects
-study at the same place everyday if possible

I'm not good at studying. I pick up a lot from lectures, but for some reasons textbooks seem tough to pick up concepts. I like to see and hear problems being manipulated and follow along.
For me the best way to go into an exam is completely relaxed, you probably know a lot more than you think you do. Just let the knowledge flow out onto your paper, don't sweat it.

turn off computer, have music play in the background LIGHTLY, write shits down on paper and keep question self wtf did you just read?

I tend to make a note card/sheet of paper..making bullets of all the little key info. things throughout each chapter/section of what will be on the test. So you kind of already cover everything and write it down once...I don't know, helps me *shrug*.

I like to try and isolate myself, while still being somewhere.
Headphone, music NOT playing. Keeping it as silent as i can.
Don't look around every time you hear a sound.
Don't look at cute girls. (Very hard.)
Focus, keep reading. Summary each paragraph in a few sentences.

First, get off Zilvia. The internet is a huge distraction for me. To keep from distractions, I went to the 24 hour computer lab / study hall at my school. When I got tired, I just slept in my car or at the table I was at. McDonalds coffee works good for me. haha.
My best friend when it comes to studying is flashcards. I live by them. They help SOOOO much. I'm passing all my classes right now with higher grades then I have been before all thanks to flashcards. You should try that.

OOOH, hahah. I should have just gone to Mt. Sac to finish my GE's. Classes are really hard to get at Cal Poly.
And IDK about the 240 owners there man. I just know that a lot of them are ricers. I've also heard of a lot of 240's and other cars getting stolen there.

dude the best way (for me at least) was do this.
1. set up good repor with prof.
2. make ur persence know in the class (ie ask questions participate in discussions)
3. take good notes.
4. read over notes night b4 test.
i NEVER did work outside of class other than re-reading notes, prob took like an hour at most, or if i had to do a project.
the better relationship u have with prof the better it is for u when it comes down to final grades.
usually when the professors know who u are (as in u participate, and make an attempt to try, even if your wrong) they will be likely to grade in your favor.

From my personal experience, Cramming the night before doesnt help, if not make it worse.
Over the course of a 2-3 days, I would study, only going over stuff that I didnt know.
The most important thing is to get some good shut eye, as the brain works wonders when your getting a good nights sleep. The brain kind of downloads all that data and info when you sleep.
There have been lots of studies that prove this and it worked for me.

I think whether or not cramming works depends on the person and subject.
personally I love cramming, and it works well for me as long as its not math.
with math, my mind needs to be 100% alert else I'll make mistakes.
When it comes to studying for anything else, I will happily hit the exams directly from an all-nighter.
I love the sensation of being wired from lack of sleep, endless shots of espresso, and maybe other stuff.
Group study sessions always worked for me. I always got distracted when i studied alone. Always found an excuse to get on the phone, get on the internet, etc.

Study before bed, sleep eight hours a night, and eat breakfast.
I need to get back in the habit of doing that.

Cramming and staying up all night just makes me tired and blank out in the middle of the test.
Try spending five minutes at the end of class to look over what you've learned. The following class take a few minutes at the beginning of class and review what you learned last class... Review a little the night before the exam.. get a lot of rest and review a little more before the exam.

yup yup thats just about what i do,
shut off the computer
which means get off zilvia haha
and just focus, if i think too hard i will find myself thinking about something else like why my 240 keeps overheating and how much work i got a head in this shell im putting together lol
i go to the library or somewhere with out a computer or the usual distractions. dont cram split it up and sleep on it and the day of do a review of the material you studied.

Just re-do the homework if its a class where the teacher gives you homework. If there is none, theres usually questions in the textbooks at the end of chapters, do those.

lol, i've have better luck at borders than bars/clubs.
its hard to read there, much less study.
