Has anyone ever driven or riding in a Fd rx7... If so, how is the interior room compared to a s13 coupe. Does I'd have more room, smaller, or farely the same. I would go find out my self but there Arent really any of fd's in memphis

I hate the interiors however it's a great chassis.

Arguably the best non supercar chasis made. The motor, your going to get mixed opinions. Normally rotaries are not reliable for shit, but then again, I have an NA fc that has like 200k miles on it running strong, no joke. More reliable than any of the 3 s13s Ive owned.

the turbo ones are dubbed unreliable because people don't know how to tune them. However they're also easy as shit to rebuild so who cares?

Turbo rotaries are a lot less reliable than NA rotaries. My buddy has an R1 FD and it's absolutely a BLAST to be in. If you've got the money to buy one and maintain one, do it. If you get too sick of the rotary, dare I say this, put an LS1 or something in it.

there are 2 kinds of people... people who fear the rotary because of what they heard, and people who love the rotary because of their performance. meaning, alot of people will actually put it down without never even experiencing it.
I am 6'3 and have owned one for the past 8 years. Plently of room for me and much nicer interior design than s13 or s14. I am super biased but I agree with what jskateborders said.
The only car I will never sell:

agreed...ive gotten to ride in a few, performance wise and a stock DD that some friends own...sweet car, if u try jumping from piston to rotary without doing ur homework, ur pretty much bound to fail or have ur rotary sitting for a while...if u know it, and tune it well...there sweet ride...
interior wise, i think there sweeter than s13's hands down...

The 93's have inferior plastics and easily wear out. The gauge cluster sits a little on the high side and is somewhat obstructive, but you get used to it.

Never owned a S13 coupe, but I do have a S14. I think there's less room inside an FD than a S14, but not by an outstanding degree. I would hate to have an FD as my only car. The S14 is useless enough as is, when it comes to hauling junk/ppl.
Interior quality is great no question. Plastics are great quality. It's not only better than S13/S14's. It's much nicer than my prior gd8 sti and my current evo x. The seats don't offer adequate lateral support imo, but the driving position is fabulous. feels like a tight cocoon. The oem (bose?) sound system is irredeemably god awful though.
About the reliability thing, my uncle had a 93 FD sit in the garage for 10-12 yrs, without even the most basic maintenance procedures, such starting the car up. Recently we decided we should get it running again. We just changed the battery & the oil. After 50 miles or so, it was running just fine. I was pretty impressed.

I used to drive an FD, and it never gave me a single problem while it was bone stock. haha
I drive an s13 now and the s13 has a little bit more leg space if you put the seat all the way back, but the seat position and the interior quality of the Mazda make it feel more "right"... at least to me. It feels much more like a cockpit than it does in the 240. Plus there's no tweed on the doors and the glovebox haha. Driving it is something else, that's for sure. If you get a chance to drive one, take it to redline just once and you'll fall in love. i promise.
The RX-7 has pretty much no trunk space, especially if you have the hatch cover.
I wish i didn't have to get rid of it but money ran out. That seems to be the story these days.. :T
I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but I think the interior in the FD allocates more space for the driver than for the passenger haha. I remember sitting in the passenger's seat and thinking it was cramped compared to the driver seat.

I hate the interior of the FD, I feel like I'm a sardine. Hell I had more room in my Alto Works.

Haha. I always felt really awkward as a passenger in my car but never attributed it to less space. I thought it was because someone else was driving my car and I was nervous but you could be on to something there.
I realized my first response in this thread didn't really address the op's question at all. I have owned both s13 and FD at the same time. From what I remember I think both cars give about equal space to the driver. Like Silharo said the FD has a cockpit feel because the center console is higher or the seating position is lower which is pretty cool.

so does the fd seats recline or have any room to move back a little.... I mean I have driven a 350z and loved it.....the interior room wasn't to big nor to small it had a cockpit feel to it but it was just right. I'm 6'1 is it possible to say that the fd has a similar feel

I think if you liked the feel of the 350z the FD will be even better for you.
I owned a 350z for a little over a year. It took me at least 3 months to get used to the seating position in the 350z. I wanted to sell the car for awhile because I felt like the seat needed to be ~2 inches lower or be able to slide back ~2 inches. I ended up driving the car with the seat as far back as it could go and reclined all the way.
In my FD I keep the stock seat bottom as far back as possible but do not need to recline nearly as much to be comfortable.

I actually love the seating position of the FD for the same reason,
but then again I prefer seating super close and higher up to the steering wheel.
I like to have the steering wheel sit far below my wrists, when seated, & and having my arms outstretched on the wheel.
For reference, I'm 6', 155 lbs, slightly obese.
My uncle, a shorter stocky guy who was about 5'6" thought the FD provided the best seating position ever.
I get the impression the FD is pretty much built for the driver who prefers sitting close to the wheel, and/or happens to be short.
If you're taller and/or prefer to sit far/low back, the car probably isn't your best option.
It reminds me a lot of my prior 92 miata.
ppl would either love or hate that car's driving position for similar reasons.
You would probably enjoy the seating position of evo x (regardless of whether you like the car).
The actual seats are nice, but they are positioned very low and non-height adjustable.
Great position if you're some giant 6'5" and taller, but I dislike it.

The fd offer more room than a s13 or s14. I know cuz I still own a fd and I have a s14. I use to have a s13 hatch and coupe. With a helmet on, I usually bang my head inside the s13 and s14. In a fd, I have ample room to move my head around. I sit straight up when I race in any car.
The only thing I dont like about the fd is that you cannot tilt the steering wheel. It is in a fixed position. So when I got an aftermarket steering wheel that is smaller, it blocks the cluster.

id had a built s13 hatch.. i got a built fc now.. but id say a stock FD should be more comfortable to daily drive if you have to. 240s are getting more theft attention now.... but even Stock FDs are beautiful.

My Civic has a Recaro Pro Racer seat and an OMP 2 spoke, 90mm offset with 20mm hub spacer. I love to sit low and have my steering wheel all up in my business however it's all wrong in the FD, I just feel cramped and awkward.

well i drive and ep3 civic hatch and it pretty cool but the seats are to close together because there isnt a center console.....unfortunately i got the ep3 when i was 17 though the shifter on the dash was cool....well im 21 heading to 22 and now and want something rear wheel drive and more refined.......but i do think the s13 coupe is so gangsta...... but if the the s13 and the fd have similar interior room i think the fd will fit more to my style and taste and plus a fd is sexy as hell stock
I had to google ep3 civic but I see what you are saying about the console thing.
I am sure you would be happy with either. Not sure how much you are looking to spend but that might determine what you end up with.

between a S13 and a FD, FD no question.
Just prepare to get shafted with insurance (and gas prices).
Still, it will be worth it.

If your gonna be daily grindin on the FD puttin wear and tear, dont get a virgin lol, you might feel bad tearin it up

I like the FD interior just cuz of the way it feels like it wraps around me. I like my S14s interior because im so used to it and its so simple. Simple compared to an S13s where i feel like its too fucking cluttered.
I love how S2Ks drive but I can never own one unless I get a damn hardtop on it. I get claustrophobic in that bitch with the soft top up.

go check one out and judge for your self..
I have soo many friends who will tell me to go buy a bmw and sell my rx7, then i have my friends who will tell me to stick with my rx7 and build it up.. lol
My point is people will always tell you one thing or another, you just have to decide and see which one you want exactly.

I had a 92 miata with a hard-top.
you could barely even throw crap in the back,
and the trunk was barely functional.
I liked that car but it was the worst when it came to extra space
With the FD, you could at the very least store a passenger/body in the back.
sub9lulu

in term of trunk space, FC > FD > miata > s2000
seat room FC > miata > FD > s2000
handling is another story

Once you own an FD the interior space will seem even smaller than you thought when you realize 1,000's of girls now want on your nuts and in your car.
But it only holds one, or two if she literally wants on your nuts.
I imagine, I have only owned one in my wettest of dreams.
