Hey guys,
I am planning on doing a 300zx Brake Swap within the next month (woohoo tax return). I am wondering if I can use remanufactured brakes, from the likes of Advanced Auto Parts/Autozone? Would this be kosher or should I just find a 300zx and take off the brakes? Thanks for your input.

Why wouldn't you? Only thing I've heard is you may get a mismatched pair, or a pair with the emblems ground off. Otherwise you're getting new seals, boots, pistons, and hardware. Can't beat that.

Yep. Mine had the ends of the "NISSAN" stamping semi ground down.
And they fucked up and gave me 26mm instead of 30mm, but I gave them S13 calipers as cores so I guess I made out on that one.

100$ for a pair of front calipers, loaded with pads/hardware, and fresh rebuilt, cant really beat that.

I got mine from autozone, they work just fine at a decent price. 4 years with no problems.

I remember reading this on Arizona Z car brakes FAQ:

"Question: Can't I save money buy using rebuilt 300ZX calipers instead?
Answer: Not really, the 300ZX calipers are heavier, don't have stainless steel pistons to reduce
heat transfer to the fluid, don't have as thick a pad, etc. Besides here's a "rebuilt" caliper one of my customers actually paid money for at an auto parts store!!!
It must of been the catch of the day at the lake it came out of!

http://www.arizonazcar.com/mini-caliperz32b.jpg 2 of the pistons are severely corroded, 1 was only halfway corroded , 1 piston is brand new!!! The mounting ears have been pried on with a crowbar and the whole caliper has been beaten with a hammer ( I guess it was misbehaving). Please compare it to the Billet 6 piston caliper (below) used in some of our kits. If you want to save even more money I've got some 20 year old tires and some used wheel bearings for your Z I'll sell you real cheap."

I'd say you can get them, but make sure you inspect them well before purchasing.

Since the rebuild kits are NLA from Nissan and hard as hell to find aftermarket ($35.99 each for the rears at NAPA) it ends up cheaper in the long run to just get a reman set.

i might just go with this i have friends at autozone maybe they can TRY and get a pair that says nissan still who knows... i have some worn out 30mm i haven't installed and stock 240sx brakes i might just sell the 30mm for someone to rebuild and give the 240sx brakes as cores...

because rebuild kits have been getting harder and harder to get out here...

I tried to do this locally...no 30mm aluminums were available. The iron ones they had looked like ass and one had a retapped bleeder.

Rebuilding these calipers is easy. If you can't get the pistons out get to a garage with air and put a block between them...should pop right out.

That said if you find yourself wondering if it's right to tighten or left, you probably don't want to fuck with your brakes. :)

I just got Q45 calipers from Murray's auto yesterday for about $110 bucks. I would much rather do that than buy some on the forums from a junkyard... it seems like both those and z calipers are always overpriced online when you can just get them already rebuilt from Napa/Autozone/etc.

Also lifetime warranty on the autozone calipers.
