i just got a pair of used '92 240 cams for my '97... this is probably a dumb question, but how can i tell the cams apart? i havent taken the cams out of the car, but that will be another post for another time... both cams look fairly identical, except for the position of the "pin" on the sprocket side of the cam... one has a "l" stamped on the cam while other has a "5". which one is the intake and which one is the exhaust cam?

One of them has green markings one has yellow (i think). Your stack cams have same thing. Whichever color u take off, there goes a cam of the same color

Ouch.... i dunnow then. try finding similar things on the cams u have and the cams u got. I don't think tehre is any other way you can determine which one is which... unless ofcourse take it to machine shop and make them measure the duration.

Ooh..ooh...I know. Don't go by the colors...as sometimes they are different.
The intake cam is the one that has the pin aligned with the lobe for cylinder number 1. I rule.
But you could have just compared the relation between the pin and the 1st cam lobe when you pulled the valve cover to swap.

i would use the search function, but since this is on the subject of cams, i'm gonna ask this question. how significant is the improvement on having the s13 cams? i know it has a higher lift. but is it worth the trouble of getting one and installing them yourself?

Ummm ppl claimed 8rwhp after swapping htem in. Personally i'd say i got 2 mabbe 3 rwhp at max. But the sound the engine makes after 4K now.... that was worth it.
