I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I am on my second spec clutch stage 3 and 4. When I get my new setup I'll go spec again.

I've had the Stage 3 and been fine for about 2 yrs now. Still grips great. My stage 2 though.....cracked the disk after about 5k miles. I was driving normally into work one day and crrrrrrrrgrrrrr. All coming from the drivetrain. I pulled the tranny and found that the disk had cracked in one spot and was rubbing on the flywheel.

It would seem to me that these are a hit or miss company. You either get a kick ass one that lasts a long time or a shit one.

I had a SPEC stage 3, TOB failed and destoryed the whole clutch, pressure plate, as well as my flywheel. I called them, they laughed. So I bought an ACT. SPEC SUCKS

Yeah I have to say I am not happy with SPEC.

I bought a Stage 1 with my fidanza flyhweel when I did my auto swap about 3 years ago. About 5 mins into the initial test drive, the drivetrain developed this really bad groaning on decelleration.

It's been in there ever since. Car shifts okay and the clutch seems to work fine. From my research, the pressure plate was made out of balance. I've tried getting the clutch/flywheel balanced. No luck.

For 300 bucks I expected more. I'm going with Exedy from now on and not looking back. I hear nothing but great things about them. Plus I figure they must be pretty good since you got companies out there posing their products as Exedy look alikes.

Imitiation is the best form of flattery.

SPEC has quality control issues. Most of their clutches are fine, but they let sub-par clutches slip out into the distribution chain.

I went with an ACT clutch because I would be the unlucky person to get one of their bad clutches.

i have isis intake manifold and have no problem with it, its good construction it is a knockoff but way better quality than some ebay shops, it's kinda like well ebay is a hit or miss... isis checks the manifold and products BEFORE selling them as does enjuku so you know you are getting a decent product... i have the intake manifold and love it, i am planning on getting the radiator (which has been proven to be as good a mishito... to the few people who have compared them with a temp gauge...) and a exhaust this month also... also they are starting to try and make they're own stuff so a bit of support might just be that push to keep on making original stuff...

i was going with SPEC but i was such a bad luck im just going to try out that RPS clutch logan mentioned...

I got my 1st SPEC from an Enjuku Promo back in 2004. I was kinda upset with Enjuku after the clutch crapped out. I know it's not Enjuku's fault the clutch crapped out, but I was upset they sold the seemingly crappy product line. i bought my 2nd one direct from SPEC and got a nice extended warranty due to the earlier problems with the stage 1.

not a fan of spec clutches my stage 3 slips its ass off after getting heated up and driven hard, next time all go with ORC single and call it a day.

RPS clutch's all the way have one very easy to drive with even with the 470lb ft rating one just stiff but i like it and grabs like a mofo

I have a spec stage 3 clutch and it seems to be holding up fine.

There was one time when drag racing I couldn't get into third or fourth gear. I don't know if that was the clutch or transmission problem until I get my transmission checked out.

I drifted on the same Spec stage 3 for almost 3 years. It never slipped once, even when I launched hard and broke an axle.

I swapped shells and when I removed the pressure plate, the clutch disc was in great shape but it had eaten away at the pressure plate pretty badly.

I bought another one soon after, because for the price it took a lot of abuse.

I guess I've good luck with them since the new one is fine too.

soouthbend clutchs are good. a clutch up to 400 ft lbs. for 330 bucks. you cant beat that. and reason my spec was slipping because my clutch ppedal didn thave enough play and it was disengaging the clutch all the way. but everytime i take play out it needs more in a few days. idk what the heck that is but its annoying

southbend/dxd racing clutches are awesome. They are an underdog and not as well known in the nissan scene. I have one of their clutches in my sr and I love it. I also know of two 300zx turbo cars running their clutches. Both are in the 500-600 hp range. One with a rb26 and the other with a turbo 60-1 vg30.

Well as for the SPEC opinions...

I finally pulled my SPEC stage 1 yesterday and dropped in an EXEDY OEM replacement. I have to say I'm never going back to SPEC. The annoying vibration and excessive humming is gone from my drivetrain, the car shifts smoother, and accelerates easier. I'm pretty sure it was just a poorly built pressure plate. I also noticed the fins were bent when I pulled it. Bad news.

I'm pretty sure I just got a bad clutch kit, but seriously for 325.00, that shouldn't happen. I'm sticking with EXEDY in the future.

To each his own I guess.

RPS Turbo Max Street is probably the best clutch and someone said lifetime warranty on the pressure plate...

Sounds to me like SPEC should stick with the "rustang" and leave us zilvians alone.

no problems here... I've only used their 6 puck clutches but I've never had a problem. I always wonder about break in consideration, when I hear other peoples stories...

I would have to agree, +1 to spec. I've had my SPEC for almost 3 years and have had NO ISSUES. I think alot of people don't follow the break-in procedures and just proceed to abuse the living hell out of their clutches.

RPS Max Street Clutch, along with their non-warping flywheel design :) rated at 475lbs. There clutches are well known in the Supra community, so that should give you a good indication about their products. I personally like it, grabs well (like a mofo), and clutch pedal feels good (just a lil stiff). I've also upgraded the slave cylinder to help with the clutch pedal feel, and NISMO bypass line etc...

My buddy with a KA-T S14 put maybe 5k miles on his spec clutch and it started slipping BAD...and he doesn't even track the car or rape on it..I pulled the clutch and it looked fine, but the pressure plate was scored to hell.

EDIT: Spec stage 3
