View Full Version : Z32 brakes + stock S13 alloys ...?

Simple question, I have not seen this confirmed definitely, or actually done... will Z32 brakes fit on an S13 with the stock 15" 7spoke alloys? Do only 26mm calipers fit, or either kind, and what about the older 89-90 SE "vented" alloys?
Has anyone actually run (or seen) this combination and can confirm what works or doesn't?

I want someone to dig up the picture that was on 240sx.org years ago. It showed there were two styles of 7-spokes.. the faces look the same, but the back of the spokes had an extra ridge on some that would not clear.
Even with the version that didn't have the extra rib, only the 26mm setup clears.
Steelies and the '89-90 teardrop wheels won't clear any of the four-piston (Z32) setups.
I think uiuc240 on this forum has 26mm Z32 brakes and is using 7 spokes as winter wheels.

...maybe. There are actually 2 different 7 spoke rims. Some have the back of the spokes completely flat, and others, (like the one's I bought, unfortunately,) have a raised rib on the back side of the spokes. The one with the rib will not without spacers, but the others should clear the 26mm without a problem, probably the 30mm as well.
Hope that helps,
Ben

I have seen it confirmed...there is a local guy who used to have that setup, temporarily (26mm brakes with stock 92 SE alloys).

OK so if that's correct, would someone tell me if this is the wheel type that does not clear?

(If you really want to see big versions, copy the urls and remove the "_small")
I suspect so :\

sorry to say, the tear drops won't clear.
I run the 26mm with 7 spoke 15in SE alloys, clears just fine.
Barely though.
30mm with 7 spoke will not clear.

So I am guessing that I should order my spacers now huh?
Think I can squeeze by with 5mm H&R spacers?

AKA was right, uiuc240 does have a set of 7 spokes over the 26mm calipers and they just barely clear. I have a set of the "other" 7 spokes as well that don't clear alone, but will with a small spacer (5mm). I guess maybe this summer we'll have to take some pictures or something.

Cool cause with me simple math if you are just clearing the 26mm and I have the 30mm if I add the 5mm spacer that will give me an extra 1mm to play with on top of the tight fit.
Very Good.
Thank you very much. Now I will be able to drive home the night I do the swap. I almost got stuck with a friend when we shoved some wilwoods on his GTI and still had fitment issues with a 5mm spacer. Nothing a little tap of the grinder didn't fix! :)

just make sure you have the wheels with the asymmetrical stiffener. the other ones with two ribs do *not* fit. hence, what Steve (240 2NR) was saying.
Yay.

I just stuck my hand behind the wheel face to feel for that bar and did.
Score!

Just to severely resurrect this thread... I'm having issues figuring out which wheels I have. I stuck my hand behind the spokes and there are two ribs on the outer edge of the spoke.
Thanks all,
Luke
