ok qwik q?
planning on running my custom turbo setup, and looking at a 300zx smic the right side. it's cheap and seems big enough.i will mount it whereever piping fits.. the issue is.. will it cool sufficently for 7-9 psi...?... i know the two combined cool 30 psi on my friend z32tt... so i'm wondering if it'll be sufficient?... hows the pressure drop btw?
i didnt know they came with intercoolers weird. I also am tryin to put together my own turbo kit, mine will undoubtetdly be better

Im just wondering about space, considering the room in any of the 240's im not too sure you will be able to squeeze her in there... i would suggest a tm or fmic rather than the side mount, not to mention its my personal feeling that you will gain alot more with fmic or tmic wrather than on the side where air is a little more scares and heated by the engine compartment
and I too didnt know they didnt come with IC's, my friend Ted has one and I remember seein the turbine, but no IC

30 psi huh? What kind of setup does he have? Stock turbos too?

Why is it that if anyone says anything over 9.1 compression or anything over 15psi everyone jumps on the BS band wagon???? Im not saying every guy is a superman with a high comp engine with high boost.. but jesus.. they do make them.. and its not hard to run high boost on most engines.. its quite easy actually.. and it doesnt take alot of extra parts.. just a 40 dollar gillis valve and a turbo that can boost that much with out creating crap air instead of boost... but whatever

I'm being specific about this Z32TT's. Do you know anything about them? Believe me, it takes more than a $40 part to be able to run 30psi without turning your motor into a grenade. I've been around these cars for long enough to know that 30psi is not easy to achieve safely

Yes, 2 of them... And they aren't very large if I remember correctly. If someone was doing a junkyard SMIC, I suggest to get one from a Saab 9000 or a supra.

The intercoolers are on the small side. Really depends on what your end goal is. I have both of my stock IC's laying around. I can measure them over the weekend if you like.

There is no way, at least that i know of, that he can run 30psi on stock injectors and intercoolers. Stock injectors are only 370CC.

if you really want a sidemount you can take my S15 SMIC off my hands :D PM me...i have all the piping and BOV

So.. why cant he run 30psi on stock injectors or intercoolers? with a t4 there shouldnt be massive amounts of heat.. probably the same heat that the stock t3's were making at 10-15psi...

TD-04's are small turbos. And any turbo's bigger than stock require some sort of injector upgrade to handle the extra boost. Even so, I cant think of anyone that is running more than 25psi with upgraded injectors and huge turbos.

Just a couple of comments, reguarding your friend's 300zx, just to set the record straight (or FYI) your own benefit of knowledge.
30psi on the stock internals, stock 370cc injectors, and stock intercoolers on a VG30DETT is absolutely NOT possible, unless you are shooting for a nice explosion. I submit the following info for you:
*Stock injectors max out at about 15-18psi or around 500hp (depending on levels of tuning) After that point the engine would be running lean and detonation would occur
*Stock intercoolers start to become insufficient around 13-15psi due to the massive amount of hot air in too small of a cooling area to cool it to a dense enough charge to due the job.
*Stock internals will simply not hold up to more then 18psi without replacing the pistons, rods, valve springs and everything else with Titanium...lots and lots of Titanium ;)
That being said, and getting back to the point of your post:
For your application, the stock Z32 intercooler would work fine for any boost level under 15psi. If you decide to actually build this custom turbo setup and need any info or are looking for the intercoolers, let me know. I have a set of stock intercoolers in my garage which I just replaced with Stillen ICs and I wouldn't mind helping with some input.

Wrong!!!!!
Stock internal is good enough for about 600 at the wheels(upgraded turbos of course). My frined's stage 5+ TT dynoed at 394 rwhp with 497rwtq - JWT intake, JWT exhaust, JWT ecu, Specialty-Z downpipes (old style), Specialty-Z test pipes, UR pulley, Blitz SBC-id, Apex S-AFC, 101 octane gas and tuning by Greg Dupree. Pull 003 is 16.5 degrees timing and around 19-20 psi flash boost while it maintains around 16-17 psi. Pull 006 is the same except for advanced timing to 25 degrees.
- 100% street car
I have a friend that puts down 600whp and the only internal mod he has is the JWT cams-that's it.
misnomer

sigh. . . Can't we stay on topic? :P
Oh well, guess his question got answered: Should do the job, but you would be better off with something larger. Keep in mind that 15 PSI was for two intercoolers running a 3 liter motor (~1.5l/IC). You will be running significantly more air through the IC on your motor than the Z will at the same boost.

tell him to sell his car ASAP.... if he is running 30 psi through stock side mounts, he deserves no car with more than 100bhp. Besides 30psi would put him well over 1000hp. And is that stock fuel system good for 30psi too?.....
