So a while back I stripped my oil feed thread and started my car up and all of the oil spilled on the ground and the car shut off. Now I did a compression test and I got 155 PSI straight across, but the kicker is when I added oil to do the wet compression test to check the rings I got about 210 PSI

what engine are you running?

So you put some oil in your spark plug holes and your compression went from 155 to 210?

If you put oil in the cylinders its always going to read higher. The oil provides a better seal by blocking the cold ring gaps and prevents the pressure from escaping through them.

Not really. Usually a major difference(+30 psi) means your rings are shot. The oil ring and the the holes around the piston should keep enough oil on the cylinder walls.

In his case I would think he messed up his oiling system enough to not pump up to the cylinder walls.

Yeah.. wet test. IIRC, 156 PSI is standard, 128 PSI minimum and 14 PSI difference between cylinders

Really? Cool.. everywhere I read it said if you put oil in there and it goes up it is the rings, but it never said anything about if rings are fine and if you put oil in there and it goes up anyways it means nothing. Thanks!

If dry readings are low and adding oil brings it back to normal, it's probably rings.
If you add enough oil, you're altering the volume (and compression ratio) in the cylinder, temporarily raising compression ratio, in your case pretty significantly. How much oil?

Less than 15psi between cylinders is ok. If it goes up more then 30psi when you do the "Wet" test you have problems. Usually the rings are shot. But in your case the oiling system could be gone(Pump or Bearings).

OP, you said your car shut off after all the oil drained out in your post. did you mean that you shut the car off when you realized what was happening or the car shut itself off due to lack of oil?

2 capfuls

It shut itself off
