dont have pics right now but what i do is i put hose clamps around the exhaust hangers before and after the diff.I tighten them as much as i can so it sucks the exhaust up a little more, plus it makes it stiffer to.

Who needs strobes and underglow when you have sparks.

Straight pipe, sounds badass, and it doesn't scrape as much.

In for pics.
I just had custom exhaust done 2.5" DP and 3" SS all the way back. I'm not super slammed yet (winter in NY) but I'm going lower in a few weeks. I'm looking at my setup and looks like it should be fine, it will be close though. I might try the hose clamp idea to save a few mm.

Custom would probably be your best bet.

Stock exhaust sits highest.

i want to make like an oval exhaust piping. this way it would be flatter but wider and clear better.
there is a company that makes a downpipe like this for the sr20's
only bad thing is that if it takes a good hit, being oval it would dent alot easier. but if i ever get the money im going to try it.

oval downpipe ftw. circuit sports cobra type. and hose clamps around exhaust hangers.

Circuit Sports has a oval downpipe, I still need to put mine in.

RSR Ex-Mag. Only scrapes I got on it were from getting stuck in super steep driveways. Piping was pretty much immaculate when I pulled it off to sell it. The connection between the header and the car were lower than the exhaust itself. And this was on shitty hanger bushings as well, Would have sat even higher if I had better bushings in place.

my GP Sports EXAS SPec D huggs the chassis pretty nice. Was designed to do so...not frame scraping, but decently low for Pennsylvania roads

Just don't get an HKS Hi-Power. Mine's not close to the body at all.

I'm definitely gonna try that hose clamps on the rubber part of the hangers, though. My exhaust always loosens itself up really quickly. I know I've got a KA, but it takes literally about a week before it starts rattling again once I tighten it back up.

couple of tips:
downpipe position is usually the main concern. Chop off a couple inches off the "down" part to tuck the piping closer to the body... and all is good. I'd take a picture of my DP setup, but you get the idea.
also, tighten up the exhaust bushings with some metal hose clamps, you can save up to about an inch or more

i think its about time for some fender-exit exhaust setups.

yeah...that's fuckin low.
I will probably have problems with my skyline, my s13 isn't gonna go horribly low. the oval exhaust is a great idea, it gives a different exhaust note too.

haha... shit is scary. Before I modified my DP, my flex piece part of my dp used to hit freeway reflectors when I changed lanes. I had to plan out my lane changes accordingly and dodge reflectors, because when I hit them, I'd feel the piping hit me from under my seat, and it would hit hard!
I'd also scrap like crazy doing 3 pt turns in neighborhood streets that "hump" too much toward the middle.

Trust DD has the best ground clearence of any mass produced s13 exhaust.
Cant beat it.

while the dd has good clearance, i beg to differ it has the best...my gp sports and a few other locals with different gp sports exhausts had better c;earance than the dd did
EDIT: i noticed you said for S13 the DD had the best...the guy i know with it had one for an S14...maybe thats why...either way its a shame they discontinued that exhaust...i really wanted one

dd is win for clearance.
diffuser is fail for clearance.

one thing i always do with my exhausts is get metal spikes and put them hanging from the rear of the tailpipe. usually you can screw them into the little hole for the silencer. (you can see what i mean in the above pic).
the spikes i used are these ones. they're like a buck
http://www.crustpunks.com/images/38.JPG
that way the spikes drag on the ground, not your exhaust.

I was literally going to come in here and post the same thing. This exhaust is low and with some hanger wear it gets even worse. Sounds nice though...

so custom oval shape exhaust?
just tired of hitting those reflectors in the freeway kinds have to dodge them all the time.
ill take a pic of my exhaust later on today to show you guys wat im talking about.

just drive with your exhaust on and let it scrape on everything.. eventually clearance will create itself.

Custom all the way. When I re-do my exhaust, it will be with oval piping as well.
Check out "Dr. Gas". Oval piping kits, as well as pre-made transitions.

3" tubes transfers to 2 1/4" tall for the Oval pipes. :D

very clever brndck
Go custom. I had the guy crush bend the pipe around the diff. Amazing clearance for how low i was.

Sounds nice though...Yeah, don't get me wrong, it's my favorite exhaust for sure, but it just sucks for ground clearance. I got some hose clamps today, and once I finish installing my header tomorrow, I'll tighten up those hangers and see what it does for me.

Yeah, custom exhaust is always gonna be your best bet for most ground clearance, and that oval exhaust pipe looks like the cats ass for building custom exhaust for a slammed car, think I'll use that on my next exhaust. And as far as those spikes go where did you find those brndck? Would be handy to get for my current exhaust.

02-23-2009, 10:39 PM
ive always used zipties around the hanger bushings, metal clamps are probably better. nismo makes some tighter hangers too i think.
that would help a bit. if your exhaust is still too low, run 18's in the rear.

when I was running this one, on the 15s it sat on the ground I shortened the DP and it still was scraping, I think the oval looks like the best. :O

i remember seing one of koguchi pics were it showed the bottom of his car.
seemed like he had his pipes nice and tucked into the firewall like if he made a dent special for the pipeing.

after i knocked my exhaust halfway off, i pulled it back with a winch and too super heavy duty zipties and pulled it up to the hangers as close as i could. seems fine but scrapes i guess a little less. probably gained a few inches more clearance since i nolonger scrape everything on the road...

i made mine, it was an O, then a n, then a n, then i welded flat steel to the bottom making it a stronger n.
it was as high as it would go, touching the bottom of the car and subframe/diff.
i have no idea why i chose 3".
now i rock the stock.

I'll post pics sometime this week of my Hi-Power on my S13.
The clearance is fine and my car is slammed, not to mention I have the 80mm piping.
I can actually get some more clearance when I finally get around to chopping my downpipe.

hahahaha my old exhaust all the brackets broke and it would flap up and down hitting the round and the body it was funny then i welded it back up:wiggle:

GP Sports Exas Spec D, shyit is tucked into the underbody and no scraping for me... Unless it's a super steep driveway or high bump. Also, my I shortened the downpipe about an inch so it is pretty much touching my firewall.
Car's lowered enough to half-tuck some 45 series tires on 17's. Not low enough... I know. Hahah.

I have 3" straight through from the turbo back, 1-18" generic resonator and a AP performance canister muffler. Ya its loud and drones like crazy but it was 200 installed.
